    "description": "<h2>Overview</h2>\n<p><strong>ABOUT THE POSITION</strong></p>\n<p>VHB’s Washington DC and Tyson's Corner, VA team is looking for a Data Scientist to join our Federal Team. The selected candidate will support a wide range of data-driven transportation safety, planning, and research projects for the state Department of Transportation, federal agencies, and local governments. The position will involve working with large datasets, conducting statistical analysis, developing visualizations, and supporting research and technical documentation. </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>The ideal candidate is interested in transportation safety, statistical modeling, data science, and emerging analytical methods. This position provides an opportunity to work on real-world projects involving roadway safety analysis, vulnerable road user analysis, systemic safety screening, behavioral analysis, and data visualization.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Applicants must be legally authorized to work for VHB in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.</strong></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Analyzes and interprets data.  </li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <ul>\n  <li>Use spreadsheets, statistical software, and programming languages to process and analyze data.</li>\n  <li>Conduct statistical analyses, trend analyses, before-and-after evaluations, and exploratory data analysis.</li>\n  <li>Develop charts, tables, and visualizations for reports and presentations.</li>\n  <li>Assist with transportation safety analysis, systemic safety screening, and risk-based prioritization studies.</li>\n  <li>Support data collection, cleaning, quality control, and integration from multiple sources.</li>\n </ul>\n <li>Support research and technical analysis tasks.</li>\n <ul>\n  <li>Assist with literature reviews, data summaries, and technical documentation.</li>\n  <li>Help prepare technical memorandums, presentations, and analytical reports.</li>\n  <li>Clearly communicate findings and conclusions from analyses.</li>\n </ul>\n <li>Support data systems and analytical workflows.</li>\n <ul>\n  <li>Troubleshoot issues related to datasets and analytical processes.</li>\n  <li>Assist with database management and data organization.</li>\n  <li>Import, export, and organize data to fulfill project needs.</li>\n  <li>Support automation and reproducible analytical workflows using programming and scripting tools.</li>\n </ul>\n <li>Collaborate with project teams.</li>\n <ul>\n  <li>Communicate regularly and effectively with team members and project managers.</li>\n  <li>Work independently while also supporting multidisciplinary teams.</li>\n  <li>Participate in meetings and contribute to project discussions.</li>\n </ul>\n <li>Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and VHB policies and procedures. </li>\n <li>Researches new data sources and analytics tools.</li>\n <li>Creates basic software programs to process and analyze data.</li>\n <li>Contributes to data product development and improvement and communicates with end users to evaluate needs and deliver solutions.</li>\n <li>Partners with stakeholders to support decision making processes and tools that produce measurable improvements in financial results.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Skills and Attributes</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.</li>\n <li>Interest in transportation safety, statistical analysis, and data science.</li>\n <li>Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.</li>\n <li>Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.</li>\n <li>Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.</li>\n <li>Team-oriented with the ability to work independently.</li>\n <li>Curiosity and willingness to learn new analytical tools and methods</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>0-2 years of experience with advanced analytics in either an academic or professional setting</li>\n <li>Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, or equivalent discipline or equivalent experience</li>\n <li>Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word.</li>\n <li>Familiarity with statistical or programming tools such as R or Python.</li>\n <li>Experience working with transportation or safety datasets is a plus.</li>\n <li>Familiarity with data visualization tools is preferred.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>The base salary range for this position is $85,000 – 92,000 for the Washington, DC location. This offer is determined based on a number of job-related factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location.
