    "jobDescription": "<p style=\"text-align:left\"><b>Position Title:</b></p>Quarterly Lecturer - Communication (2026-2027 Pool)<p style=\"text-align:inherit\"></p><p style=\"text-align:left\"><b>Position Type:</b></p>Temporary<p style=\"text-align:inherit\"></p><p style=\"text-align:left\"><b>Salary Range:</b></p><p><span>$9552 for each 4 or 5 unit course.</span></p><p style=\"text-align:inherit\"></p><p style=\"text-align:left\"><b>Purpose:</b></p><p><span>The Department of Communication at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit, Catholic institution, invites applications for Quarterly Lecturer (non-tenure track) positions to teach courses in Communication Studies. Courses may include Comm 1, (Communication in Everyday Life), Comm 2, (Public Speaking), Comm 3 (Digital Storytelling), Comm 4, (Introduction to Communication Research), Comm 12 (Technology and Communication) and Research Methods (qualitative and quantitative), introductory, intermediate and advanced classes in Journalism, or an introductory course in digital filmmaking, an advanced course in screenwriting, an advanced course in cinematography or editing, or an advanced course in film or television studies.</span></p><p></p><p><span>Specific assignments will be made according to the academic qualifications of the individual and programmatic need. Santa Clara University is on the quarter system, and the quarters are 10 weeks long with an 11th week for final examinations.</span></p><p></p><p><span>This is an applicant pool; as such, positions are hired as needed. The successful candidate will teach no more than 2 courses in any quarter and no more than four courses over the fall, winter and spring quarters. All classes will be presented in-person, however, if the county health and university health conditions deteriorate, the successful candidate may be asked to teach part of the course online.</span></p><p></p><p><b>BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:</b></p><p><span>(1) </span>Terminal Degree (Ph.D./MFA) in Communication or a closely-related field is preferred. Applications who are ABD or possess a Master’s Degree, accompanied by commensurate academic experience in Communication or closely-related field (5-7 years of college or professional teaching) will be considered.</p><p><span>(2) </span>Applications without an advanced degree but can demonstrate exceptional professional experience in communication studies and successfully teaching at the collegiate level will be considered.</p><p>(3) Excellent communication skills</p><p></p><p><b>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</b></p><p><span>(1) Experience with inclusive pedagogical practices that promote access and academic success for </span></p><p><span>(2) Experience teaching and mentoring a diverse population of undergraduate students.</span></p><p></p><p><b>RESPONSIBILITIES:</b></p><p><span><b>TEACHING (100%)</b>.</span></p><p><span>Teaching duties include but are not limited to fulfilling all responsibilities associated with assigned courses, including:</span></p><p><span>a. Teaching a course load of no more than two courses per quarter and no more than four per academic year;</span></p><p><span>b. Conducting and appearing at all assigned class meetings in a timely and prepared manner that demonstrates a command of the discipline and skill in presenting it effectively;</span></p><p><span>c. Assigning and evaluating assignments that align with the course description and course learning outcomes, and providing timely feedback to students;</span></p><p><span>d. Holding regular weekly office hours on campus;</span></p><p><span>e. Submitting student grades that are appropriate, accurate and fair measures of student performance to the Office of the Registrar by the designated deadline;</span></p><p><span>f. Administering numerical and narrative evaluations for all courses;</span></p><p><span>g. Where applicable, teaching from an approved syllabus for the University Core courses assigned or working with the Chair to design an appropriate syllabus for submission for approval from the relevant Faculty Core Curriculum Committee.</span></p><p></p><p><b>Service (0%):</b></p><p><span>This position does not require any service duties.
