Description
Camino Nuevo Charter Academy (CNCA) is a network of charter schools serving students across the TK-Post Secondary continuum in the Greater MacArthur Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. Pueblo Nuevo Education Development Group (PNEDG) is CNCA’s resource development and capacity building arm. PNEDG invests in young people to foster personal transformation and generational social change. PNEDG staff support and build capacity for CNCA schools in achieving their vision. The organizations are grounded in the beliefs that public education is a civil right and all students deserve an excellent education that will prepare them for success in life. At CNCA/PNEDG, we recognize that lower income and immigrant communities often face institutional and cultural barriers that create impediments to students’ success, and that an excellent education must eliminate these barriers. We integrate a strong focus on progressive, research-based academics with a holistic, place-based approach to serving our students. Currently, CNCA has six campuses that serve approximately 3,500 students from TK through 12 th grade. Our goal is for CNCA graduates to be equipped with the skills, knowledge, and worldview necessary to be literate, critical thinkers and independent problem solvers.

The Opportunity
Under general supervision of the Vice President of Strategy & Operations, the Director of Facilities supports, manages and performs facilities-related work for Grupo Nuevo Los Angeles, Pueblo Nuevo Education & Development Group and Camino Nuevo Charter Academy. The Director of Facilities will set the strategy for facilities and facilities management; will lead facilities improvement planning and budgeting; oversee and manage projects and provide high-level oversight to school-sight leadership teams and custodians.
Essential Functions:
Strategy and Vision Setting Responsibilities
Lead focus area within facilities, contributing to the overall vision and strategy of the function
Support the CFO in developing a strategic plan for supporting the ongoing success of the facilities team
Support the research, development and execution of a cohesive, five-year strategic plan for facilities maintenance and improvements
Provide training and contribute to the development of structures and processes to increase the level of excellence across the custodial and facilities teams
Contribute to monitoring effectiveness of the schools’ operations and custodial staff using a key metrics dashboard
Recommend innovation and improvement in support of the organization’s facilities master plan
Elevate challenges that arise within facilities and work with CFO to inform and improve work
Understand and navigate the political, social, economic, legal, and cultural context facing urban charter schools and the students they serve
Administrative Management and Compliance Responsibilities
Maintain all CNCA, PNEDG and GNLA records as they pertain to Entity Formation, Facilities Projects, Taxes and/or other foundational documents
Perform a variety of technical functions, research, and analysis pertaining to the organization’s building program and master planning
Plan, schedule and coordinate the long-range facility maintenance and cleaning programs for custodial personnel
Review and inspect school facilities to ensure against safety hazards and maintain a standard of cleanliness and attractive curb appeal
Responsible for ensuring all schools and facilities meet and pass all health and safety inspections
Lead, manage, and evaluate individuals responsible or accountable for facilities and custodial operations or functions
Provide ongoing coaching to and developing of direct reports including annual goal setting processes, periodic step backs and retreats, and consistent check-in and coaching meetings
Collaborate with the CEO and/or Chief Business Official and other stakeholders to ensure that expenditures for facilities are in line with budget and priorities
Work with state construction funding agencies on project funding and audit records and requirements on behalf of the organization, reporting to the CEO as needed or required
Assist with the development of budgets and monitor, verify and balance various accounts and financial records requiring the use of independent judgment
Ensures that all facilities functions and projects are effectively managed and work with principals to ensure their direct reports are held accountable to high expectations
Oversee and manage facilities and improvement projects, meeting with vendors, project managers, construction managers, etc., on a regular basis to ensure timeliness of deliverables and project success
Perform complex and technical accounting and fiscal record management operations related to construction and facilities-related projects (i.e. review invoices, pay bills, enter requisitions, etc.)
Monitor construction contracts, payment requests, change orders and notices of completion
Prepare all paperwork, deeds of easement, legal advertising and documents required for property transactions
Contribute to preparation and presentation of regular status reports for the Executive Leadership Team and/or the Board of Directors related to facilities-related processes and procedures
Establish effective vendor relationships related to facilities
Effectively use data, facilities technology, and manage facilities systems
Manage the 16-unit apartment house owned by GNLA, supervise the resident manager and outsourced property manager. Manage rent collection, deposit and reconciliation, weekly property inspections, participate in GNLA work team meetings, handle tenant issues or disputes, problem solve issues pertaining to the rental unit, perform project management duties and turn over units for new renters. Work with HCIDLA (Housing Authority) on inspections and compliance.
Conduct regular property management meetings with vendors as they pertain to GNLA properties included but not limited to the 16-unit apartment house
Serve as the primary point of contact for emergency communication for all CNCA, PNEDG and GNLA Facilities
Administer the Athletic Field and Soccer Operations, supervise Field Coordinator, schedules, field usage and manage field rentals and fees
Communicate effectively orally and in writing
On-call at all times
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Bachelor Degree required; will consider Associate’s Degree/two years of college + two (2) years of related work experience ­ OR four (4) years of related work experience (plus any additional required experience)
At least 7-10 years in facilities management or other related leadership
Experience building and developing teams as well as working across teams with general oversight
Fluency in Spanish (written and verbal) required
