Description
General Summary Manages activities of recovery specialists responsible for procurement, perfusion and preservation. Develops new techniques and opportunities to maximize the recovery, preservation and transportation of organs for transplant, tissue and research. Oversees and participates in initial and annual training. On call duties as assigned. This position requires periodic on-call status and is required to work extended periods including 24-hour and overnight shifts. Responsible for individual and departmental staff compliance with all Network programs and policies.
Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions: Assures that team of surgical recovery staff is available to meet donor recovery needs. Equitably distributes assignments. Responsible for schedule. Trains new staff in recovery techniques and procedures. Manages professional training and development and time and attendance management for team members. Maintains full competency in performing all aspects of Recovery Specialists job. Provides regular job performance feedback and develops performance goals mid-year and annually for team members. Monitors all specific recovery feedback received regarding the performance of the recovery specialists. Develops and implements best practices for Recovery Specialists and oversees assures follow through. Determines research priorities and selects the most appropriate research methodology and techniques. Provides input regarding hiring, orientation, terminations, and corrective actions and facilitates conflict resolution in collaboration with leadership. Over sees operations to assure that all medical supplies are available and properly maintained for use. Supervises clinical department to ensure that biohazard waste generated by the clinical department is properly disposed of. Collaborates with leadership on budget information for department. Participates in Network clinically based educational and improvement programs and committees. Ensures that pump readings are available in a time consistent with chart closure and reporting of this information to transplanting surgeon. Prepares reports on critical measures as defined by operational definitions for purpose of performance improvement. Collaborates with Clinical management team to foster positive relationships with affiliated industry partners in order to maximize on the gift of donation. Conducts department staff meetings, individual team members meetings as necessary to ensure effective communications. Performs Kidney Biopsy Telepathology functions: a) Communicates with clinical staff, pathologists and transplant center staff for biopsy preparation and interpretation.
b) Prepares and dissects frozen sections of organ tissue.
c) Measures, scans, and provides microscopic views of frozen sections for a pathologist’s interpretation.
d) Assures proper use of upload and report writing in the biopsy software.
e) Assures proper use of the cryostat and camera equipment.
f) Assures appropriate clean up and disposal activities according to regulatory and organizational requirements
May be cross trained in other areas as needed. Performs other duties as assigned based on training, expertise, and Clinical needs Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in science or health related field with at least 2 years of organ and tissues recovery experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC) or have American Association of Tissue Banking (AATB) certification preferred. Pay Range:
Salary: $80,700.00 - $128,500.00
This salary range is based on our market pay structures. Individual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to business needs, local market conditions, internal equity, and candidate qualifications such as skills, licenses, certifications, education, and experience.
