PROGRAM OVERVIEW The Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program (MBSYEP) is a locally funded initiative sponsored by the Department of Employment Services (DOES) that provides District youths with enriching and constructive summer work experiences through subsidized placements in the private and government sectors. ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND National Housing Trust (NHT) has been dedicated to creating and preserving affordable housing for almost 40 years. We build, preserve, and finance affordable housing and use that expertise to inform and advance resident-focused solutions to strengthen the broader affordable housing industry. Our Community Outreach and Impact (COI) team is dedicated to resident success. We believe that all people deserve affordable housing and that integrated, onsite services provide accessible support to our residents. POSITION COI is seeking a resident of the Savannah Apartments in Washington, DC, between the ages of 22 and 24 for a temporary contract position running from June 29 through August 7. This is a part time role, working up to 30 hours per week, and reporting to the Resident Services Coordinator. This position is fully on site with no remote work option. RESPONSIBILITIES Support relationships with onsite and external service providers Assist in coordinating resident programs for all ages based on community interests and needs Help supervise and support volunteers during programs and events Assist with collecting and organizing resident survey data to identify community needs Participate in regular check-ins and meetings with RSC Help connect residents to local resources (rental assistance, food access, workforce training, tutoring, etc.) Collaborate with staff and residents to help plan resident meetings and community events Gain exposure to nonprofit operations, community-based programming, and resident services management IDEAL CANDIDATE Current resident of the Savannah Apartments in Washington, DC (must be listed on the lease) Available to work on site throughout the summer Between the ages of 22 and 24, with an interest in community development, social work, public policy, nonprofit management, or a related field Strong communication and interpersonal skills ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check. COMPENSATION Compensation for this position is set in accordance with the Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program (MBSYEP) guidelines. Current program rates are: $9/hour for participants ages 16–21 $17.95/hour for participants ages 22–24 JOIN US Applications will be accepted through May 30.
