Description

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a team responsible for Asana’s monetization platform, the systems that power billing, pricing, packaging, incentives, product catalog management, and revenue-critical operational workflows across the company. The team builds the internal platform, APIs, and administrative experiences that enable Asana to safely and rapidly launch and evolve monetization capabilities at scale while maintaining high standards for reliability, scalability, and financial correctness. This includes business-critical integrations with billing providers, product catalog infrastructure, incentives and promotional systems, and the core abstractions used by product teams to build monetization experiences. The team combines platform engineering, financial systems, and product infrastructure to enable scalable monetization capabilities across Asana. Our systems sit at the intersection of product strategy, monetization infrastructure, and scalable backend engineering. The team plays a foundational role in enabling new business models, enterprise monetization features and pricing evolution. This role is a unique opportunity to help shape and scale a strategically important engineering organization responsible for some of Asana’s most business-critical monetization infrastructure. This role is based in our Vancouver office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. The standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most Asanas have the option to work from home on Wednesdays. Working from home on Fridays depends on the type of work you do and the teams with which you partner. If you're interviewing for this role, your recruiter will share more about the in-office requirements. What you’ll achieve: Lead and Grow a High-Impact Engineering Team Manage and grow a team of backend and full-stack engineers working across monetization and billing systems Help establish the engineering foundations, operating model, and technical culture for a growing monetization platform team Drive execution, prioritization, and technical direction across a strategically important monetization platform area Hire, onboard, mentor, and develop engineers across backend and full-stack domains Foster strong engineering ownership, operational excellence, and collaboration across the team Build sustainable engineering processes that balance delivery velocity with long-term platform health Own Revenue-Critical Monetization Infrastructure Lead engineering efforts across systems powering: Monetization platform APIs and shared business abstractions Product catalog infrastructure supporting pricing, packaging, bundles, and monetization Incentives and discount systems Billing provider integrations Billing and payment management experiences within Asana’s admin console These systems operate at high scale and reliability requirements and directly support business-critical monetization initiatives across the company. Drive Strategic Cross-Functional Initiatives Lead complex, multi-quarter initiatives involving Engineering, Product, Finance, Enterprise Technology, and Operations teams Help teams navigate ambiguity, prioritize effectively, and execute against aggressive business timelines Partner with stakeholders to translate monetization and business strategy into scalable technical solutions Improve alignment mechanisms and reduce execution friction across dependent organizations Balance short-term business needs with long-term platform sustainability and architectural health Drive Technical and Operational Excellence Guide architectural discussions and technical decision-making across scalable backend and platform systems Evolve reliable, maintainable service-oriented architectures that support monetization and revenue-critical workflows Ensure teams maintain high engineering quality through strong design reviews, code reviews, and operational rigor Help improve developer velocity and platform usability for engineers building on top of monetization infrastructure About you: Experience managing software engineering teams in scalable backend, platform engineering, or service-oriented architecture environments Strong technical background in scalable backend systems, platform engineering, or full-stack application development Experience leading cross-functional initiatives involving multiple engineering and business stakeholders Strong execution, prioritization, and organizational leadership skills Experience operating production systems with high reliability and scalability requirements Experience hiring, onboarding, and growing engineering teams Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences Preferred qualifications Experience with billing, payments, subscription, pricing, or monetization systems Experience leading platform or infrastructure teams Experience with microservices, Kubernetes, gRPC, or service-oriented architectures Familiarity with Scala and TypeScript ecosystems Experience scaling operational excellence practices for engineering teams At Asana, we're committed to building teams that include a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills, as this is critical to helping us achieve our mission.
