Description
Step into a leadership role that combines clinical supervision with ongoing client care, offering the opportunity to mentor clinicians while maintaining your own therapy caseload.
NewStart’s Clinical Supervisor provides DHS 75-aligned clinical supervision while also delivering evidence-based care to their own patients, supporting recovery from substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. They mentor therapists and Addiction Care Coordinators, balancing leadership and direct care to ensure high-quality, consistent treatment across the team.
In this role, you will provide clinical supervision to licensed therapists and Addiction Care Coordinators in accordance with licensure requirements and DHS 75 standards, while delivering individual and group therapy using evidence-based approaches. You will collaborate with outpatient and inpatient teams to ensure seamless transitions of care and support patients and families from diverse backgrounds in achieving their recovery goals. You will also contribute to clinic initiatives, support and plan professional development trainings for clinic staff, and serve as the on-site clinical leader in the absence of the Clinical Program Supervisor and Clinic Manager.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities: Screens, performs intake assessments and collects diagnostic information to determine an immediate treatment plan and assist patients in successfully achieving healthcare goals, primarily related to substance abuse and mental health. Triages individuals with acute behavioral health conditions including suicidality, psychosis, mania, and substance use problems to appropriate levels of treatment. Provides American Society of Addiction Medicine Levels 1 and 2 treatment. Works collaboratively with patient, family, and treatment team to create a treatment plan that will provide the best possible recovery and stabilization. Utilizes best practice approaches, including Zero Suicide techniques for suicide prevention such as Safety Planning and appropriate community referrals, trauma informed care, and harm reduction. Maintains appropriate documentation of all clinical services provided to patients based on DHS 75 standards. Case manages patients receiving services through Newstart. Refers patients to and coordinates with community resources and providers, including the primary care physician. Communicates with legal system for reasons including drug court, deferred prosecution, driver safety plans, probation, and child protective services. Participates or leads on committees and projects as assigned within NewStart service. Participates in staff meetings. Provides clinical supervision sessions. Supports planning, development, and roll-out of professional development and in-service trainings for clinic staff. Performs telephone triage and crisis intervention direction. QUALIFICATIONS: Master of Science or Master of Arts degree from accredited school of: Social Work (clinical track); Psychology; Counseling; or Marriage and Family Counseling Full Mental Health Licensure in State of Wisconsin (LCSW, LPC, LMFT) 5-years of licensed clinical experience with individuals with substance use disorders and mental illness. Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. Skilled in collecting diagnostic information Able to assess and recommend levels of care based on American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria Skilled in Case Management Experience with individual, family, and group therapies Familiarity with addiction recovery process and symptoms of relapse. Able to utilize evidence-based psychotherapy interventions, such as: motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma-informed care, harm reduction, mindfulness, dialectical behavioral therapy, and 12-step facilitation. Ability to practice cultural humility and work with a diverse population of clients and staff, including using an interpreter. Experience and skill in working as part of an interdisciplinary team. Demonstrate other problem solving, conflict resolution and effective communication skills. Crisis intervention management skills. Basic, nontechnical knowledge of psychotropic and Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) medications.
Preferred: Minimum of 360 hours of specialized substance use disorder education as outlined in WI Statutes SPS 161. Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor certification or Substance Abuse Counselor certification (SAC or CSAC) Clinical Supervisor license (ICS, CS-IT) Experience providing clinical supervision to licensed providers Familiarity with: Community based support groups WI Department of Health Services Chapter 75, “Community Substance Abuse Service Standards” Electronic Health Records Crisis Prevention/Intervention techniques Administration of Narcan
