Safety Technicians are responsible for creating and maintaining a safe and secure environment within the departments to which they are assigned. We even offer pet insurance for your four-legged family members. • Early access to earned wages with Daily Pay, tuition reimbursement to help further your career and adoption assistance to help you grow your family. </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>With a collective goal to champion a culture of belonging where everyone feels valued and respected, we honor the ways people are unique and embrace what brings us together.   </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>And, we believe equipping you with support and development opportunities is a vital part of delivering an exceptional employment experience. </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Join our team of experts and make a difference with UnityPoint Health.</p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<h3><strong>Physical Environment of Care</strong></h3>\n<ul>\n <li>Create a safe, welcoming space for patients by monitoring units, screening visitors, and removing unsafe items.</li>\n <li>Quickly respond to behavioral emergencies and assist with safety screenings upon patient admission.</li>\n <li>Build strong working relationships with nurses, dietary, therapy, and support teams to ensure seamless care.</li>\n <li>Actively monitor patients through routine rounding and maintain clear communication with the care team.</li>\n</ul>\n<h3><strong>Patient Safety</strong></h3>\n<ul>\n <li><p>De-escalate challenging situations and, when necessary, use physical interventions to protect patients and staff.</p></li>\n <li><p>Partner with nurses and mental health professionals to assess patient needs and support care plans.</p></li>\n <li><p>Provide compassionate support to patients and families—emotionally, physically, and personally.</p></li>\n <li><p>Communicate clearly and calmly in high-stress situations to ensure understanding and trust.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<h3><strong>Regulatory Compliance</strong></h3>\n<ul>\n <li><p>Stay current on mental health laws and procedures (e.g., 48-hour holds, court committals, Ed Thomas Law).</p></li>\n <li><p>Lead or support training on de-escalation, restraints, and behavioral safety practices.</p></li>\n <li><p>Assist in workplace violence prevention efforts through data collection, reporting, and follow-ups.</p></li>\n <li><p>Complete timely documentation and reports to meet policy, safety, and regulatory standards.</p></li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<p>Required:</p>\n<ul>\n <li>High School diploma. </li>\n <li>Good communication skills.  </li>\n <li>Good documentation skills.  </li>\n <li>Ability to defuse acute situations with behavioral patients</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Preferred:</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Post-secondary in counseling, therapy, or psychology.</li>\n <li>1 – 3 years working in a related field or situation.</li>\n</ul>",
