Description

Pharmacy Technician - Open to Caymanians and those without immigration restrictions only. Reports to:          Senior Pharmacy Technician Class :                  Full-Time Type:                    Hourly Established:       April 2022                                   Revised: Primary Role: Pharmacy Technicians perform the technical, product-orientated tasks of the Pharmacy. The Pharmacy Technician’s role may encompass any/ many of the following areas depending on the needs of the patients/ clients and the organisation. Responsibilities: Dispensing of medications – work alongside the Pharmacist in filling prescriptions (new & repeat) by: Receiving and processing orders from patients and physicians (by telephone, fax, script or email) and transferring new telephone orders to the Pharmacist. Prescriptions are to be checked to ensure all information is on hand and is appropriate before processing. Checking the patient’s insurance eligibility for each prescription and entering appropriate information in the patients computer file for accuracy claim submission. Alerting Pharmacists to potential medication interactions, misuse & non-compliance Counting, pouring, weighing, measuring and compounding the prescription where required, determining the delivery mode, packaging and labeling the container appropriately. Prepare printed information for the patient to read as requested by pharmacist or policy. Preparing compliance packs when necessary. Locating and procuring medication that is not in stock but necessary for immediate services Computer operation including: Daily update of patient and drug files. Assist in the management of inventory including ordering, receiving, stocking shelves reconciliation, entering stock into the computer system so that the inventory count is correct. Conduct inventory reviews to ensure stock counts in the computer are accurate periodically Operation of cash register, credit card machine (accuracy is essential). Prepare medication insurance claims as needed after prescription is processed Submit insurance claims online as necessary Resolving pharmacy software issues and other computer related problems; contacting IT or tech support as necessary. Administrative, Housekeeping & Maintenance duties including: Answering telephones, faxes and emails Stocking and replacing equipment & supplies (e.g. vials, labels, bottles, bags, zip-lock bags, printers, cartridges, fax machines, credit card machines and cash register tapes). Receiving payment from customers and managing accounts receivables Following up on patient prescriptions that have not been collected, and if no longer required ensuring that they are returned to stock and the transaction cancelled in the patient’s prescription profile and on hard copy. Updating phone & contact lists. Regularly cleaning up & reorganizing the facility & finding ways to increase efficiency. Other clerical duties as assigned Interpersonal skills - delivering improved customer care by: Providing excellent customer service utilizing verbal and non-verbal skills. Professional and polite telephone, fax and email communication and etiquette. Enhancing customer trust by maintaining confidentiality. Maintaining cordial and professional relations on a daily basis with clients, colleagues and other health care professionals. Performing any other duties deemed necessary by the Manager. Qualifications / Knowledge Requirements: Must have taken courses in Pharmacy Technician/Dispenser skills and acquired certification. Knowledge of drug classifications, medical and pharmaceutical terminology including prescription Latin abbreviations, dosage forms, routes of administration, generic name and brand name of drugs listed in each classification, legal requirements for prescriptions and controlled drug administration - are all necessary in order to process prescriptions accurately and efficiently. Minimum of 3 years working experience in retail/hospital/community pharmacy setting with experience in computerized management of inventory as well as patient record maintenance and insurance billing. Must possess good communication skills. Should endeavor to keep abreast of new developments in the field by reading, visiting other facilities and attending seminars and workshops. Accountability: The Pharmacy Technician will be accountable to the Senior Pharmacy Technician. Physical, Mental & Environmental Requirements: Requires standing for long periods of time. Requires ability to work in fast paced environment. Requires positive personality and consistent interpersonal skills. Requires professional dress and appearance. Well-groomed, with minimal perfume. All requirements may be modified to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities. This job description does not list all the duties of the job.
