This employee works relatively independently and is expected to make primary decisions based on sound assessments in accordance with The Public Health Act, the policies of the Public Health Nursing program, the SRNA Standards of Practice, the Canadian Community Health Nursing Standards of Practice, and other relevant legislation. Inherent in this role are knowledge, skills, and abilities specific to health promotion, prevention, and protection. This employee liases with, and refers to, other health personnel, and other sectors and community groups. Human Resources Exemption: No Experience Minimum of one (1) year Public Health Nursing experience is an asset. Education Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) Course credits in community health and public health nursing are required Licenses Basic Life Support Health Care Provider Certificate (BLS-HCP) Valid Class 5 driver's license Competencies Basic - Organizational skills Basic - Interpersonal skills Basic - Communication skills Basic - Computer skills Basic - Decision making skills Knowledge and Abilities Negotiation, conflict resolution and mediation skills. Ability to promote healthy lifestyles with diverse populations Demonstrates skill in group education, individual counselling and advocacy Demonstrates flexibility by adjusting workload to accommodate client needs. Ability to demonstrate initiative, independent judgment & organizational skills Ability to work collaboratively with team members and the community at large. Ability to assume responsibility and work independently Ability to build and maintain relationships based on accountability. Ability to communicate with clients from diverse backgrounds High level of accuracy in health assessment, nursing diagnosis and treatment. Knowledge in community development Knowledge in health equity and impact of poverty and risk conditions on health Health Promotion strategies include building healthy public policy Willingness to adhere to established Public Health policies and procedures. Ability to analyze health issues in the context of political & social climate Establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships Communicate effectively orally and written with clients of varying ages Uses independent judgment based on evidence-based practice.
