Description Emergency Room RN (PRN) – Flexible Scheduling Department: Emergency Department Status: PRN (As Needed) FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports To: Manager – Emergency Department / Med Surg / Respiratory Services Location: Pagosa Springs Medical Center – Pagosa Springs, Colorado Position Summary Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) is seeking an experienced and adaptable Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team on a PRN basis . The ED RN provides urgent and emergent nursing care to patients presenting with a wide range of conditions. Responsibilities include triage, assessment, stabilization, monitoring, patient education, and collaboration with providers to ensure safe, high-quality outcomes. This role is ideal for nurses who thrive in high-acuity environments and are confident managing rapidly changing patient conditions. Schedule Highlights PRN / as-needed scheduling Flexible shifts based on department needs (days, nights, weekends, holidays) Opportunity to pick up additional shifts as available Key Responsibilities Emergency Patient Care Triage patients using Emergency Severity Index (ESI) guidelines Perform comprehensive patient assessments and reassessments Initiate and manage emergency nursing interventions to stabilize patients Monitor patient response to treatment and communicate changes promptly Clinical Interventions Administer medications and IV therapies safely and accurately Perform procedures including IV starts, oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, splinting, and more Assist with emergency procedures and trauma care Support airway management, hemodynamic monitoring, and critical care interventions Care Coordination & Communication Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams Provide clear communication during handoffs using SBAR Educate patients and families regarding care, treatment plans, and discharge instructions Documentation & Compliance Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the electronic health record Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements Follow National Patient Safety Goals and infection prevention protocols Team Support & Leadership Serve as a resource and mentor to other staff when needed Assist in maintaining a clean, stocked, and ready clinical environment Participate in continuous learning and department training initiatives What you’ll find at PSMC: A supportive, collaborative culture where people truly care about each other Modern facilities and growing service lines Leadership that listens and invests in staff Opportunities to learn, grow, and advance your career A place where you can have direct impact on patient care and community wellness Qualifications Education Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse (RN) program BSN preferred Experience Minimum two (2) years of Emergency Department experience required Licensure & Certifications Current Colorado RN license in good standing Current AHA BLS certification TNCC certification required ACLS certification required (or within 3 months of hire) PALS certification required (or within 3 months of hire) CEN certification preferred Skills Strong critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills Ability to manage high-acuity and rapidly changing patient conditions Strong communication and teamwork abilities Proficiency with electronic health records and clinical systems Work Environment Fast-paced Emergency Department setting Exposure to high-stress situations and unpredictable patient volumes Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, communicable diseases, and hazardous materials Physically demanding role requiring standing, lifting, and patient positioning Compensation & Benefits Base Compensation Range: $33.25 - $51.40 hourly, based on years of relevant experience ranging from 0-22 years of experience. "Relevant experience" means relevant to the employee's responsibilities set forth in the job description as determined by the HR Manager, CAO, applicable department manager/director and applicable senior leader. Shift Differential Pay: Night Shift Differential: Employees who work majority of hours between 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. receive a Night Shift Differential of an additional $5.00 per hour. Premium Pay: PRN Differential: PRN Employees in this position receive a PRN Differential of an additional $5.00 per hour. Benefits: Benefits include sick leave and retirement plan with employer contribution.
