The successful candidate will </span><span>contribute to </span><span>the design, construction, and operation of greenfield or existing </span><span>tailings</span><span> storage facilities. The candidate will be supported by an existing multi-disciplinary team of geotechnical/geological engineers, geoscientists, hydrologists, </span><span>hydrogeologists</span><span> and others.</span></span><span> </span></p>\n<p><span><br></span></p>\n<p><span><span>This<span> </span></span><span>position can be based at one of our Canadian locatio</span><span>ns listed <a href=\"https://www.bgcengineering.ca/contact/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here.</a></span></span><a href=\"https://www.bgcengineering.ca/contact/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span> </span></a></p>\n<p><span> </span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><span><span>Responsibilities</span></span></span><span> </span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span><span>The scope of work will include site investigation planning and execution, foundation </span><span>and tailings </span><span>characterization for geotechnical design, assessment of hazards and failure modes, stability analyses, development of construction drawings and specifications, construction oversight and quality assurance, response to contractor and client requests for information, dam safety inspections, instrumentation data review, and records reporting. Other responsibilities</span><span> could</span><span> include:</span></span><span> </span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span><span>​</span></span><span><span>Work in a multi-disciplinary team related to the performance of tailings storage facilities. </span></span><span> </span></li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span><span>​</span></span><span><span>Annual inspections and reporting (DSIs, etc.).</span></span><span> </span></li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span><span>Present technical content to various stakeholders including clients, regulators, and independent technical review boards</span><span>.  </span></span><span> </span></li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span><span>Support and coordinate field investigations, and construction activities in collaboration with contractors, clients, and multidisciplinary teams</span><span>. </span></span><span> </span></li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span><span>​</span></span><span><span>Train, mentor, and supervise technical work </span><span>of</span><span> junior</span><span> to </span><span>intermediate staff. </span></span><span> </span></li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span><span>​</span></span><span><span>Help promote BGC vision, values, and culture amongst BGC staff. </span></span><span> </span></li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span><span>​</span></span><span><span>Travel as </span><span>required</span><span>, which could occasionally include extended shifts at remote work sites and visits to North American BGC offices.</span></span><span> </span><br></li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><span><span>Required Education, Experience &amp; Competencies</span></span></span><span> </span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span><span>​​</span></span><span><span>Demonstrated competency and experience working in tailings management for the responsibilities noted above. </span></span><span> </span></li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span><span>Undergraduate</span><span> degree in Civil or Geological Engineering. </span></span><span> </span></li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span><span>​</span></span><span><span>Post-graduate degree in Geological, Geotechnical, or Civil Engineering is preferred. </span></span><span> </span></li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span><span>Registered as a Professional Engineer.</span></span><span> </span></li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span><span>5</span><span>+ years of relevant work experience in </span><span>tailings</span><span> management</span><span> and </span><span>dam design.</span></span><span> </span></li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span><span>​​</span></span><span><span>Experienced in all phases of large </span><span>tailings</span><span> projects: investigation, design, construction, operations, and closure.</span></span><span> </span></li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span><span>Strong leadership, analytical, project management, and communication skills. </span></span><span> </span></li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span><span>A commitment to technical excellence. </span></span><span> </span></li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><span><span>Position Requirements</span></span></span><span> </span></p>\n<p><em><span><br></span></em></p>\n<p><em><span><span>Drug &amp; Alcohol Testing</span></span><span> </span></em></p>\n<p><span><span>To ensure we meet our client’s compliance requirements and our workplace health and safety commitments, BGC has a drug and alcohol policy that applies to this position.  The policy<span> </span></span><span>states</span><span><span> </span>that an employee may<span> </span></span><span>be required</span><span><span> </span>to take a drug and alcohol test prior to engaging in field work.
