Description

Job Overview The Assistant Director of Special Education, Evaluation and Student Support will direct and manage the planning, programming, and implementation of supports and services for students with disabilities.Significant communication with campus administrators will be expected of this position in order to implement instructional and behavioral services to students with disabilities and to monitor and oversee any training that is needed on the campuses to address needs.The incumbent will also supervise and build capacity of the Special Education and 504 staff. The incumbent will primarily oversee evaluation processes and systems for all special education services and 504/dyslexia services.The incumbent will also be responsible for overseeing special education and 504 compliance, including SPP Indicator 11 & 12, PEIMS data and submissions. Position Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities Evaluation Oversee all special education evaluation systems and processes within the district, to include 504 and dyslexia evaluations Directly supervise and oversee evaluation and 504 program, to include goal setting, performance appraisal, and ongoing coaching and leadership development Oversee the provision of professional development activities for special education and 504 personnel as it relates to special education, 504,and dyslexia evaluation (evaluation staff, special education staff, leadership staff) Communicate with campus administration as needed to review campus data related to evaluation statistics, needs and support Programming Facilitate implementation and effectiveness of specially designed instruction and related services for assigned campuses Evaluate the effectiveness of services and recommend improvements to meet the needs of the special education and 504 Collect, compile, and analyze data to be used in program evaluation Facilitate implementation, monitor effectiveness and provide ongoing monitoring of evaluation system and programming for special education, 504 and Dyslexia program Act as a liaison between the Special Ed/504 District Departments and individual campuses to coordinate a plan of support related to instructional and behavioral decisions based on initial or re-evaluation data Organize support requested by individual campuses and monitor implementation and effectiveness of that support Administrative/Compliance Plan and provide professional development activities for special education personnel and 504, district administration, and campus administration Update and maintain written guidelines for the Special Education and 504 Administrative Guidelines Oversee and monitor compliance data related to SPP indicators 11 and 12, and snapshot/PEIMS data for special education and Dyslexia/504 Assist with TEA complaints, Due Process Hearings, and grievances, as well as participate in resolution meetings related to evaluation issues Other duties as assigned Supervisory Responsibilities Assist in the process of recruiting, screening, interviewing, and hiring of assigned staff Initiate personnel actions including documentation and termination under the guidance of Human Resources Recommend personnel actions including transfer and discipline of assigned personnel Performance appraisal of assigned Program Managers and Administrative Assistants Address complaints and resolve problems Assist in the absence of the Director of Special Education by assuming responsibilities of the Director Job Overview The Assistant Director of Special Education, Evaluation and Student Support will direct and manage the planning, programming, and implementation of supports and services for students with disabilities.Significant communication with campus administrators will be expected of this position in order to implement instructional and behavioral services to students with disabilities and to monitor and oversee any training that is needed on the campuses to address needs.The incumbent will also supervise and build capacity of the Special Education and 504 staff. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Work is performed in classrooms, offices, work stations and meeting rooms. The position requires occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying work related items weighing less than 40 pounds, such as books, papers and presentation materials. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress. Additional Information This position requires travel to various campuses, to conferences and meetings in and out of state.
