Description

JOIN THE ECS4Kids TEAM ECS4Kids (formerly Episcopal Children’s Services) is a 2026 Top Workplace that honors young children’s immense potential by helping them enter school ready to learn. We cultivate lifelong learners by immersing children in enriching guided experiences and discovery-oriented approaches. Through our Head Start program, our dedicated professionals work with families and caregivers throughout Georgia to promote children’s well-being. This enables us to strengthen key areas including motor development, cognitive development, social and emotional development, language and communication skills, and problem-solving skills. Partner with us to help empower communities to rise above generational poverty with comprehensive early childhood education and holistic family support. We have career opportunities available in several counties throughout the Savannah River Region. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Facilities Assistant supports the safe, clean, and well-maintained operation of assigned ECS4Kids Head Start centers. This role performs routine maintenance, minor repairs, and preventive upkeep to ensure facilities, playgrounds, and grounds meet health, safety, and regulatory standards and support high-quality services for children, families, and staff. Key Responsibilities: Perform general maintenance and minor repairs across assigned centers, including carpentry, drywall, painting, doors, windows, flooring, and fixtures. Assist with preventive maintenance activities to extend the life of buildings, playgrounds, and equipment. Support basic maintenance of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems under appropriate supervision. Conduct routine inspections of facilities and playgrounds; identify safety hazards and report needed repairs or code concerns. Assist with monitoring and testing building safety systems (e.g., fire extinguishers, alarms) and communicate issues promptly. Support special projects such as room set-ups, minor renovations, lawn and grounds care, and vehicle upkeep. Safely use and maintain hand and power tools (e.g., drills, saws, wrenches, hammers) and follow all safety procedures. Document maintenance requests, work performed, and materials used using logs or electronic systems. Maintain a clean, organized work area and properly store tools and materials. Interact professionally with staff, children, families, vendors, and the public. Perform other related duties as assigned. (These job functions are not to be construed as a complete statement of duties. Employees will be required to perform other related duties as required.)
