JOB OVERVIEW: EPIC Insurance Brokers & Consultants is seeking an attorney with experience in contracts, insurance, or construction to serve as a Construction Risk Management Contracts Attorney on our team of Property & Casualty insurance brokers in Birmingham, Alabama. In your role as a Construction Risk Management Contract Analyst, you will use your legal background to assist our specialty construction contractor clients with contractual risk identification and management, insurance coverage issues, and P&C insurance program design. WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR: Licensed attorney with at least 3+ years of relevant legal experience (required). Experience working with construction contractors or litigating claims for construction contractors is nice to have, but not required. Candidates with strong, professional communication skills - both written and verbal - to interact with all levels of the internal organization, as well as external clients. Strong time management skills and self-starter, someone who understands what needs to be done and proactively takes it on. Eagerness and hunger to learn and grow. Positive and outgoing disposition, great team player. HYBRID - Candidates able to work at least 3 days a week in our Birmingham, AL office is required (Mondays are required, and 2 other days of the week). WHAT YOU’LL DO: A detailed list of job duties include (but are not limited to): Contractual Risk Analysis Review and analyze construction-related client contracts to identify contractual risk exposures and provide practical advice to clients/prospective clients regarding risk mitigation and the interaction of insurance coverage and contractual risk. Provide clients with contractual risk-management guidance, strategies, and training. Engage with client personnel (including in-house/outside counsel, risk managers, purchasing managers, and other relevant stakeholders as necessary) to assist in development of contractual risk and insurance provisions to ensure proper alignment of contractual risk with the clients’ insurance coverage. Client Development and Retention Work with colleagues to identify coverage gaps and/or contractual exposures in prospective client insurance programs in preparation for capabilities presentations. Assist in the development of new business, including participating in capabilities presentations, RFP responses, and other business development activities in-person or via videoconferencing. Engage regularly with current clients in scheduled EPIC Risk Management Reviews to discuss new exposures, market conditions, significant activities, services performed for clients, open claims status, etc. Additional Duties & Responsibilities Maintain all required legal/insurance licenses or certifications, as well as current knowledge of insurance industry trends. Attend seminars, workshops, continuing education, and training programs, as necessary and appropriate. WHAT YOU’LL BRING: Education, Experience, Licenses/Certifications: Juris Doctorate degree required from ABA-approved program. At least 3 years of experience in contracts management, insurance coverage, construction, and/or other comparable legal experience within a law firm or in-house legal department. May be required to obtain Property & Casualty agent/producer license or other professional insurance designations. Obtain IRMI Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS) designation within one year of hire. Required Competencies, Skills, and Abilities Ability to effectively build relationships with clients, carriers, and peers; position requires teamwork, poise, tact, and diplomacy Strong contract review skills Excellent time management, organizational, and multi-tasking skills, with high attention to detail Work in fast-paced environment while managing multiple competing tasks and demands Ability to work both independently and in cross-functional teams Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, and public speaking skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations with sound judgment May be required to work extra hours with no restrictions COMPENSATION: The base pay offered will be determined based on your experience, skills, training, certifications and education, while also considering internal equity and market data.
