Description

The YMCA of Greater New York is here for all New Yorkers — to empower youth, improve health, and strengthen community. Founded in 1852, today the Y serves a diverse population of more than half a million New Yorkers who learn, grow, and thrive through programs and services at our 24 branches. Community is the cornerstone of the Y. Together, we connect active, engaged New Yorkers to build stronger communities. To help fulfill our mission, we cultivate a culture of learning, leading, and collaboration to enhance community impact. Through our talented staff and “LEAP” career framework (Leadership, Empowerment, Accountability, Personal Growth), we are committed to a people-first approach that fosters trust, inclusion, growth, and development for all. The West Side YMCA is seeking an Activity Specialist for their Community Arts program. Under the direction of the Sports, Arts, and Movement Director and the Studio Manager, the Activity Specialist will be responsible for monitoring the Art Studio and usage within the facility. General duties include enforcing all YMCA policies and procedures and ensuring a positive environment for members and guests in all assigned areas. The major functions of the Community Arts Activity Specialist include: Demonstrate strong service and hospitality through the development of interpersonal relationships with all members, participants, and YMCA employees. Ensure ongoing communication with the Membership department. Continually serve as a resource for member questions, concerns, or needs. Ensure the enforcement of established YMCA policies, procedures, guidelines, and Code of Conduct. Effectively monitor the studio usage schedule while encouraging the community. Ensure ongoing cleanliness of the space and equipment. Embody the YMCA core values. Key Responsibilities: Maintain organization and cleanliness of all spaces, materials, supplies, and equipment utilized. Monitor the Art Studio entrance and ensure access is granted only to authorized individuals. Assist members and program participants in effectively utilizing materials and equipment. Continuously monitor all areas of the Art Studio to ensure proper usage and adherence to policies and guidelines. Maintain communication with supervision and maintenance staff to ensure thorough cleaning of the Art studio spaces. Inform the supervisor of needed supplies, including cleaning supplies, when applicable. Maintain attendance rosters of participants. Ensure participants exit the studio and/or facility after the program ends. Complete incidents/accident reports in a timely manner. Maintain the integrity of the Community Arts Department and the YMCA of Greater New York. Uphold all YMCA of Greater New York standards and guidelines. All other duties as needed for the successful operation of the Art Studio and the programs offered by the YMCA. Desired Skills Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent required. College degree preferred. Experience in the Visual Arts field. Knowledge of ceramics is a must. Creativity and flexibility are a must. Ability to communicate effectively with members of all ages. Current First Aid or CPR certifications preferred. Benefits: The YMCA of Greater New York offers a variety of benefits to its staff members, including retirement benefits , medical, paid time off, free YMCA membership, and more! Benefit eligibility is determined by an individual’s employment status (i.e., full-time or part-time), tenure, and/or the number of hours scheduled to work. Click here for more information. How to Apply: If you would like to be a member of our dynamic team, please complete our online application and submit your résumé and a thoughtful cover letter that explains your interest in the role and our organization.
