Primary Summary:
The YMCA focuses on strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
The Adult Programs Instructor leads a variety of classes or instructional sessions for adults, such as wellness, fitness, recreation, enrichment, or sports-based activities. This role fosters a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment for participants of all backgrounds and skill levels.
Essential Functions:
• Instructs adult programs as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines and expectations.
• Prepares and organizes class content, materials, and equipment.
• Creates a welcoming and supportive environment that encourages participation and community-building.
• Adheres to YMCA policies and procedures including those related to safety, emergency response, and risk management.
• Ensures all equipment and supplies are maintained, reporting any needs or issues to the supervisor.
• Maintains accurate attendance and participation records as needed.
• Communicates program information and schedules to participants and may refer members to other YMCA programs.
• Attends required staff meetings and training sessions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications: • Minimum age of 18 years old.
• Prior experience instructing classes, teaching adults, or working in wellness, fitness, recreation, or a related field preferred.
• Successful completion of background check.
Certifications required within 30 days of start date (as applicable to the class and YMCA standards):
• First Aid/CPR/AED (valid for 2 years, unless otherwise noted)
• Completion of required YMCA Risk Management and Safety training prior to start and annually thereafter
Physical Demands:
• Ability to plan and lead physical activities in various settings.
• Must be able to perform physical tasks such as walking, standing, squatting, kneeling, climbing, lifting, and other movements required by the specific class or activity.
• Must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
Employees and volunteers who do not directly supervise children and teens will:
• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with children and teens.
• Attend required abuse risk management training annually.
• Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
• Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
• Adhere to job-specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
