Under the general supervision of the Dental Coordinator, the staff dentist is responsible for administering, maintaining, and expanding a program of primary care and preventable dental care in a health center setting. This position is assigned overall responsibility for developing, managing, and maintaining public health dentistry, program-wide.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</strong>:</p><ul><li>Provides dental consultation to other tribal/state agencies, educational institutions, state health department programs, county health departments, and professional organizations, and establishes and maintains official working relationships.</li><li>Examine, diagnose and treat oral diseases.</li><li>Perform oral treatments including root canals, extractions, and fixing and removable prosthetics.</li><li>Work with clinical staff to provide quality patient treatments.</li><li>Educate patients on preventive dental care and oral health care.</li><li>Design and fix prosthodontic appliances including bridges, partial dentures, complete dentures, and space maintainers.</li><li>Treat teeth malformations, gum injuries, and other oral abnormalities.</li><li>Use dental instruments safely to avoid accidents.</li><li>Operate x-rays and diagnostic equipment effectively to examine teeth and gums.</li><li>Ensure that the work area is maintained safe, clean, and organized.</li><li>Follow standard dentistry procedures and comply with company policies.</li><li>Evaluate patient’s dental health and prescribe medications.</li><li>Refer patients to appropriate specialists when needed.</li><li>Recording of patient’s progress, procedures, and other dental/health matters.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>ADDITIONAL DUTIES</strong>:</p><ul><li>Perform other duties and projects as required by management.</li><li>Stay abreast with the latest developments and techniques in the dental field.</li><li>Work with office staff in managing patient appointments and scheduling to achieve productivity goals.</li><li>Timely completion of continuing education required by state licensing requirements</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>SKILLS AND ABILITIES</strong>:</p><ul><li>Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of dentistry and dental epidemiology.</li><li>The ability to communicate well with the public, staff, and other providers.</li><li>The ability to analyze complex problems and adopt an appropriate course of action.</li><li>Excellent written skills, the ability to keep detailed records.</li><li>Strong computer skills; experience with healthcare databases/applications</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS</strong>:</p><ul><li>Graduation from an accredited college of dentistry.</li><li>CPR certification is required.</li><li>Two (2) years of experience preferred.</li><li>State of Oklahoma Dental license preferred.</li><li>Current DEA and OBNDD License</li><li>Read, write, and speak English</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS</strong>:</p><ul><li>Sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.</li><li>Ability to bend, stretch and kneel.</li><li>May require some moderate to heavy lifting.</li><li>Repetitive computer work.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS</strong>:</p><ul><li>A general clinical environment with frequent exposure to chemicals, bloodborne pathogens, and patient body fluids.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Note</strong>: The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by an employee in this position.
