    "description": "<p>POSITION SUMMARY</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><br><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Position Title:</span> Summer Intern, Bioinformatics and Data Science                                                        </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Reports to:</span> Associate Director, Bioinformatics</p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Status:</span> Full-time, Non-Exempt, Summer Intern</p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Duration:</span> 10 – 12 Weeks (Summer 2026)</p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Location:</span> South San Francisco, CA (Hybrid or Remote)</p>\n<p><br><br></p>\n<p><br><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Summary:</span> A summer internship opportunity is available for an undergraduate student interested in applying computational and artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) methods to biological and chemical data in a drug discovery setting.  The intern will work closely with a cross-functional team spanning bioinformatics, machine learning, chemistry, and biology.  This intern will be paired with a dedicated mentor to guide the student through this process and be a full member of the team throughout the internship.  The intern will also have plenty of opportunities for networking and career development through conversations with people across multiple roles and teams at Assembly Bio.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>This role emphasizes hands-on experience with real datasets and exposure to modern computational pipelines used in early-stage therapeutic development.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Analyzing biological and chemical datasets (e.g., RNA-seq, single-cell, proteomics or screening data) using Python or R</li>\n<li>Supporting development, testing and optimization of bioinformatics, cheminformatics and AI/ML pipelines</li>\n<li>Documenting workflows and results in a reproducible manner</li>\n<li>Presenting findings in internal meetings and contributing to reports</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Qualifications Include:</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pursuing a degree in <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field</span></li>\n<li>Strong programming skills in <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Python and/or R</span></li>\n<li>Some familiarity with common bioinformatics tools and libraries (e.g., Bioconductor, Scanpy, Seurat, PyTorch, TensorFlow)</li>\n<li>Understanding of molecular biology concepts (e.g., gene expression, sequencing technologies)</li>\n<li>Experience with statistical analysis and data visualization</li>\n<li>Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Preferred (Not Required)</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Experience with <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">single-cell data analysis</span>, NGS pipelines, or cloud computing</li>\n<li>Exposure to <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">machine learning or deep learning</span> methods in biological contexts</li>\n<li>Familiarity with version control (e.g., Git)</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">What You Will Gain</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hands-on experience with real-world drug discovery datasets</li>\n<li>Exposure to interdisciplinary workflows bridging computation and biology</li>\n<li>Opportunity to contribute to impactful research in a fast-paced biotech environment</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">How to Apply</span></p>\n<p>Please submit:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Resume/CV</li>\n<li>Brief statement of interest (1–2 paragraphs)</li>\n<li>Optional: GitHub or project portfolio</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Pay Range:</span><br><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">$25 - $27/hr</span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>The stated pay range for this position reflects the San Francisco Bay Area job market.
