Description
Job Overview
This program is funded by Los Angeles County Dept. of Public Social Services to assist DV survivors achieve safety, empowerment, employment, and self-sufficiency. The Domestic Violence Resource Center is a community-based center for low-income survivors of domestic and intimate partner violence. We provide strength-based and trauma-informed mental health, case management support, legal services, and advocacy.
We are seeking a DV Mental Health Clinician to provide trauma informed individual, family, and group mental health services with survivors of domestic violence. The DV Mental Health Clinician may also provide safety planning, goal setting, social-emotional support, and advocacy. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes Case Managers and Attorneys. The right person is a mental health professional who is registered with the BBS and completed the 40-Hour Domestic Violence Advocate Certification.
Key Responsibilities
Treat participants with dignity and respect, understand the cycle of violence, and practice mental health from a strength-based perspective. Utilizes trauma informed care to establish rapport and safety with domestic violence survivors. Conduct outreach and engagement of DV survivors who qualify for services. Provides thorough clinical assessment(‘s) and diagnoses. Works with the client to develop the client centered treatment plan. Monitors progress and updates the treatment plan as needed. Addresses mental health and/or substance abuse symptoms using individual, group, and/or family counseling. Provides crisis assessment and intervention as needed. Provides thoughtful discharge planning to ensure the client safely transitions. Maintains frequent communication with the treatment team, including the Case Manager and Attorney. Meets expected client care hours (productivity expectation is 25 client care hours per week). Facilitate groups such as DV 101, Seeking Safety, Beyond Violence and Trauma, etc. Safety planning: ongoing follow-up to help client keep their family safe from violence. Client Advocacy: phone calls, coordination of services on behalf of the clients. Empowerment and motivation to engage in behaviors that will prevent family violence. Maintains compliance with due dates for all clinical documentation including assessment, treatment plan, treatment plan updates, re-assessments, discharges, outcome measures, and other clinical documents. Documentation must maintain in compliance with agency policy and procedures, HIPAA, 42-CFR, DPH standards.
Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required: Masters of Social Work, Masters of Family Therapy or related clinical degree; must be CA BBS registered or eligible. Required: 40-hour Domestic Violence Advocate Certification. Minimum 2 years’ experience in mental health service delivery. Experience with evidence-based, culturally competent, gender responsive, and trauma informed services. Dependable automobile, California Driver's License, and valid car insurance. Must be able to pass background/criminal check. In compliance with the California Department of Public Health's mandate, all employees must be able to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Medical and religious exemptions are available.
