You will work with volunteers to ensure that the communities you serve are ready to respond to disasters.</p><p></p><p>Join us in meeting the needs of continuous disaster response! Regional disaster employees are required to deploy to disaster relief operations outside of their region at a minimum of once a year. Deployments contribute to skill building, career development and exposure to different types of disasters.  Allowances may be provided for personal circumstances and local response activity. Employees must meet all training and physical capacity requirements for deployment.</p><p><span class=\"emphasis\"><i>This person will report out of the Anchorage office several days a week.</i></span></p><p></p><p><span class=\"emphasis-3\"><b><i>WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD</i></b></span></p><ul><li><b>Empower Volunteers</b>: Direct an employee and diverse volunteer team responsible for the implementation of volunteer-led disaster services programming throughout the region. Ensure disaster services are delivered in a rapid, accessible, and equitable manner, both culturally and linguistically, to meet the urgent, disaster-caused needs of our clients, with a focus on frontline communities. </li><li><b>Lead the Program: </b>Oversee the successful implementation of the entire disaster cycle services program in alignment with Fundamental Principles and established program standards.</li><li><b>Mission Capacity Building:</b> Champion and drive the development of regional Disaster Leadership Volunteers, including volunteer partners, to meet specific responsibilities as part of their work in disaster readiness, preparedness, response, and recovery.</li><li><b>Engage Community:</b> Lead regional efforts to prepare and mobilize communities and engage partners to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and emergencies.</li><li><b>Manage in a Matrix</b>: Build relationships and collaborate in the matrix management environment with internal partners, including employees and volunteers.</li><li><b>Know Your Communities:</b> Act as the regional disaster leader and Red Cross disaster subject matter expert.</li><li><b>Ready to Respond</b>: Initiate, scale, coordinate and manage disaster relief operations in the region in alignment with the Disaster Cycle Services Concept of Operations.</li></ul><p></p><p><span class=\"emphasis-3\"><b><i>WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED</i></b></span></p><ul><li>Education: Bachelor&#39;s degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.</li><li>Experience: Minimum 7 years of related experience.</li><li>Management Experience: 5 years of management experience of paid or volunteer workforce.</li><li>A current valid driver&#39;s license and good driving record is required.</li><li>Travel: Travel may be required.<br /> </li></ul><p><span class=\"emphasis-3\"><b><i>SKILLS AND ABILITIES</i></b></span></p><ul><li>Ability to work outside of regular duty hours including nights and weekends.</li><li>Ability to work on a team. Proven track record of collaboration, facilitation, problem solving, leadership and partnership engagement.</li><li>Demonstrated experience leading high-performing volunteer teams and effectively engaging and mobilizing communities and community-based organizations.</li><li>Proven ability with analyzing, interpreting, and acting on business analytics, planning, technical writing, public speaking, project management, data entry and management, and process improvement. Ability to handle multiple priorities effectively, assimilate information quickly, analyze problems and implement solutions appropriately.</li><li>Ability to work independently while developing and motivating a high functioning team of employees and volunteers as well as have excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with all levels of employees and volunteers across the enterprise. Excellent oral and written communications skills, including training, presentation and negotiating skills.</li><li>Experience with budget management, oversight, and compliance. Must be analytical, customer oriented, flexible, organized, and able to operate with an orientation toward solutions, an external focus, and team orientation. Familiarity with program guidance and standards required.</li><li>Proficiency in standard office technology tools such as cell phone, laptop, and Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel). Ability to work outside of regular duty hours including nights and weekends.<br /><br /><b>Regional positions</b>: Regional leadership and functional employees are expected to work daily within their region&#39;s geographic area to provide leadership and functional support, engage and mobilize communities, and support volunteers.<br /><br /><b>Deployment Requirement:</b> Regional disaster employees are required to deploy to disaster relief operations outside of their region at a minimum of once a year.
