Position Summary
Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) provide direct care and personalized support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a community setting, ensuring their health, safety, and welfare. DSPs impact the people we support through hands-on assistance, community engagement, and promoting personal goals and independence.
Key Responsibilities
Understands, supports, and advocates with people we support by helping them achieve their vision of a good life.
Identifies, documents, and shares concerns and successes as appropriate.
Transports and accompanies people to activities, appointments, and events.
Helps with personal care tasks as needed (e.g., bathing, dressing, hygiene).
Supports activities of daily living (ADLs).
Assists with money management by promoting independence and responsibility.
Administers medications in accordance with training and protocol.
Takes people to medical appointments and ensures necessary documentation is completed.
Participates in recreational, social, and educational activities within the community.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED preferred, but equivalent work experience will also be considered.
Previous experience working with people with intellectual/developmental disabilities preferred but not required.
Knowledge & Understanding: Basic understanding of health, safety, and person-centered support principles.
Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work compassionately and effectively with diverse individuals.
Reliability and excellent time management skills.
Ability to handle emergencies and follow safety protocols.
Must obtain First Aid/CPR certification within six (6) months of the start date.
Must pass Medication Administration training within two (2) months of the start date.
Satisfactory Act 33, Act 34, and FBI clearance required.
Must have a valid PA Driver’s License and a vehicle available for daily use, as local travel for transport and community activities is required.
