Description
The University of Tennessee Health Science Center Department of General Dentistry seeks a full-time tenure-track faculty at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. This position encompasses responsibilities in clinical and didactic instruction, service, and scholarly activity across all facets of prosthodontics, including occlusion, fixed prosthodontics, removable prosthodontics, and implant prosthodontics. Opportunities for direct patient care are available through the University Dental Faculty Practice.
Responsibilities
TEACHING AND CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT:
Deliver comprehensive didactic, pre-clinical, and clinical instruction in Prosthodontics to predoctoral and postgraduate students. Develop and implement innovative teaching methodologies to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. Serve as a course director, overseeing curriculum design, assessment methods, and student performance evaluations.
CLINICAL SUPERVISION AND PATIENT CARE:
Supervise and mentor students in clinical settings, ensuring adherence to best practices in patient care. Participate in University Dental Practice, providing direct patient care and serving as a role model for students.
RESEARCH AND SCHOLARLY ACTIVITIES:
Engage in scholarly activities, including research projects, publications, and presentations at professional conferences. Mentor students and junior faculty in research endeavors, fostering a culture of inquiry and evidence-based practice. Participate in departmental and college committees, contributing to the strategic planning and continuous improvement of academic programs. Engage in community outreach programs, promoting oral health education and access to care. Oversee students in clinical settings, ensuring competency in patient-centered care. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior faculty and residents. Conduct clinical teaching and mentoring of students. Maintain active participation in research and scholarly activities. Provide direct patient care when necessary to support student education and community service.
INSTITUTIONAL SERVICE AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT:
Participate in departmental and college committees, contributing to the strategic planning and continuous improvement of academic programs. Engage in community outreach programs, promoting oral health education and access to care. Oversee students in clinical settings, ensuring competency in patient-centered care. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior faculty and residents. Conduct clinical teaching and mentoring of students. Maintain active participation in research and scholarly activities. Provide direct patient care when necessary to support student education and community service.
Qualifications
EDUCATION: DDS/DMD or equivalent degree from a CODA-accredited institution.
LICENSES: Eligibility for a Tennessee Dental License.
DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES:
Prior experience in dental education with a demonstrated ability to work productively in didactic and clinical educational environments.
History of publications or evidence of research and scholarly activity
Clinical experience in advanced technologies, digital workflows, and laboratory services to support the prosthodontic curriculum.
