Description Job Summary: The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for the overall management, strategic direction, and operations of the organization. The CEO will work closely with the UKB Corporate Board, Tribal leadership, community members, and other stakeholders to fulfill the mission of the organization, ensuring the protection, preservation, and advancement of the Tribe’s cultural, social, economic, and political interests. Primary Responsibilities: Leadership and Strategic Direction: Provide visionary leadership to the organization, guiding the development and execution of long-term strategic plans that advance organizational growth, economic development, and financial sustainability in alignment with the UKBFC’s values, culture, and priorities. Serve as the primary liaison between the UKB Corporate Board, Tribal leadership, and the organization’s staff and stakeholders. Lead the development of policies and programs that advance the mission of the organization while fostering sustainable growth and development for tribal economic development. Ensure that the organization maintains a positive image and strong relationships with the UKBFC’s community, the public, governmental agencies, and other organizations. Identify and pursue opportunities that stimulate economic growth, diversify revenue streams, and strengthen the organization's competitive position. Champion initiatives that create employment opportunities and support workforce development within the community. Establish measurable economic development objectives and monitor progress toward achieving organizational and community impact goals. Governance and Board Support: Prepare the annual plan of operation for the Corporate Board Members’ review (including operating budgets, capital budgets, production and sales targets, expense and revenue projections and reinvestment and profit-sharing plans, and accounting for corporate funds). Assist the UKB Corporate Board in fulfilling its governance responsibilities, including establishing and evaluating the organization’s mission, goals, and outcomes. Work collaboratively with the UKB Corporate Board to define and refine the strategic direction of the organization. Provide timely and accurate information to the UKB Corporate Board to aid in decision-making processes and maintain effective communication. Ensure that the organization adheres to all legal and regulatory requirements. Report all expenditures to the full Corporate Board at regular meetings. Operational Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization, including management of all operations, financial management, human resources, and administrative functions. Ensure that organizational systems, policies, and procedures are effective, efficient, and in compliance with applicable laws, Tribal regulations, and contractual requirements. Manage and optimize the organization’s budget, ensuring financial health, sustainability, and the responsible allocation of resources. Oversee the hiring, training, and evaluation of staff, ensuring a high level of staff performance and development. Promote a positive, inclusive, and culturally sensitive work environment that values diversity and reflects the UKBFC’s values. Negotiation & Relationship Management: Lead high-level negotiations involving contracts, partnerships, investments, acquisitions, and other strategic agreements. Represent the organization in discussions with government agencies, investors, business leaders, and key stakeholders. Negotiate favorable terms that protect organizational interests while fostering productive long-term relationships. Resolve complex business issues and conflicts through effective communication, collaboration, and negotiation. Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement: Foster partnerships with other organizations, agencies, and key stakeholders to expand the reach and effectiveness of the UKBFC’s strategic mission. Prepare project development planning, including seeking and exploring new business opportunities, development of business plans, and identifying lands to acquire for Corporate Board approval. Serve as the primary advocate and representative for the UKBFC in external business affairs, including interactions with governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations, and other Tribal entities. Develop education and training programs to prepare tribal members to fill professional, managerial, and non-managerial positions. Ensure that the organization is responsive to the needs and concerns of key stakeholders, building trust and maintaining open channels of communication. Build and maintain strategic partnerships with private industry, government entities, Tribal organizations, educational institutions, and community stakeholders. Identify and secure partnership opportunities that enhance organizational capabilities, resources, and market reach. Financial Oversight and Fundraising: Develop and manage the organization’s budget, ensuring financial resources are properly allocated and used effectively. Ensure financial sustainability by monitoring the establishment and maintenance of financial controls, policies, and procedures. Qualifications Education & Experience: A bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, finance, accounting, or a related field is required, Master's degree preferred. Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience, ideally within a Tribal, non-profit, for-profit, or governmental organization. Strong understanding of Tribal culture, values, governmental structures, and business growth and development. Proven experience in managing complex budgets, developing and implementing strategies, and working with diverse stakeholders. Skills & Abilities: Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse audiences. Ability to build relationships with Tribal leadership, community members, and external partners. In-depth knowledge of Tribal sovereignty, legal frameworks, and government regulations affecting Tribal organizations. Skilled in strategic planning, business development, and financial management. Experience in conflict resolution, cultural sensitivity, and community engagement. Personal Characteristics: A deep respect for and commitment to the Tribe’s culture, traditions, and values. A passion for advancing Tribal economic sustainability and growth. High ethical standards and a commitment to transparency and accountability. Flexibility, adaptability, and a problem-solving mindset. Physical Requirements: Ability to travel as required to meet with Tribal leaders, stakeholders, and partners. Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary. Work Environment: Office-based with some travel to local, regional, and national events and meetings. Collaborative and culturally diverse work environment. Office standard working hours: Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm.
