Job Summary Job Summary: The Medical Assistant (MA) is key in assisting the physician with basic patient care and medical procedures. They perform patient services as requested which may include but is not limited to phlebotomy, obtaining EKG’s, collecting and processing specimens, applying bandages/splints as well as perform patient vital signs and other care as needed. Responsibilities Assisting the physician with basic patient care and medical procedures within the Medical Assistant (MA) scope of practice. Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc. Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures. Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and/or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) d Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct. Package specimen for transport. Ensuring the site is fully stocked with supplies • Helping maintain a clean, courteous, and professional working environment • Providing compassionate care to our patients • Assisting with training and acclimation of new hire MAs Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen.
