Location : Sydney, NS Compensation : $26.60-$30.90/hour Hours : 70 hours biweekly Start Date : Jul 20, 2026 End Date : N/A Closing Date: Jun 11, 2026                                                                           Communication Disorders Technician                                                                                                        Sydney Hearing and Speech Nova Scotia (HSNS) provides audiology services to Nova Scotians of all ages, and speech-language pathology services to preschool children and adults. HSNS is funded by the NS Government to deliver integrated and standardized provincial services across 37 clinical sites, located in 26 communities. Nationally certified Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists, with support from Communication Disorder Technicians and Administrative Support Professionals, provide core services (prevention, diagnosis, and treatment), develop and monitor provincial clinical standards, and collaborate with partners to deliver a number of special programs (e.g., Autism, Stroke, Cochlear Implant). Established in 1963, HSNS works to prevent and reduce the impact of communication disorders for Nova Scotians. A CDT works under the supervision of a speech-language pathologist and/or audiologist to provide clinical support for clients with communication needs (e.g., hearing loss, speech sounds, language). Additionally, the CDT coordinates, develops, facilitates, and participates in community-based, clinic, and/or virtual caregiver education and screening activities to raise awareness and promote early identification. This position works with a general preschool population as well as with preschool children with autism and their families within the Provincial Preschool Autism Service. The home base is Sydney. The successful candidate reports to the assigned Manager. Schedule to be determined. Requirements: Successful completion of a Communication Disorders Technician formal training program or equivalent. A recognized diploma in a related field (e.g., OTA/PTA, ECE, CCA/LPN, etc.) from a college will also be considered. May also be currently enrolled in one of these programs if graduation is anticipated before start of employment Successful completion of additional on-the-job training in speech, language and hearing services Effective communication skills, including proficiency in written and spoken English. If English is not your first language further documents will be required Flexibility in work schedule to provide evening/weekend services Flexibility to travel on occasion to attend continuing education, events and/or meetings Candidate will have to demonstrate current immunization and/or boosters at the end of the probationary period Effective interpersonal skills with a wide variety of clients and professionals Available to work in a variety of settings (e.g., clinic, preschool, hospital) Experience working with preschool-aged children with communication disorders Computer literacy skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Demonstrated good organizational/workload management skills Demonstrated familiarity with the Speech-Language & Audiology Canada (SAC) Communication Health Assistant Guidelines Valid Nova Scotia driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle as travel is required Assets: Experience working with Audiologists and/or Speech-Language Pathologists 1 year of experience with preschool-aged children Ability to communicate in multiple languages Experience with newborn hearing screen procedures and equipment Familiarity with pediatric communication disorders (Autism, phonological disorders, language delay, hearing loss) Experience with provision of services via telepractice Experience supporting caregiver training services Lived experience with a communication difference Experience working with communication technology and/or visual supports Note – All offers of employment will be conditional upon results of a criminal records check/vulnerable sector search and child abuse registry search, all to be satisfactory to the employer.
