Description
Who We Are
Our Commitment
At LEARN DC, we are committed to Achievement for All: Every Student, Every Day — No Exceptions, No Excuses. We believe that gaps in achievement are not permanent—they are the result of unmet instructional needs. Our role is to uncover, understand, and address those needs with urgency and precision.
Position Overview
The Academic Interventionist is responsible for accelerating student achievement by delivering targeted, evidence-based instruction to students performing below grade level.
This role operates within LEARN DC’s MTSS framework and is accountable for ensuring that intervention leads to measurable, sustained student growth, not just additional instructional time.
Core Responsibilities
Targeted Intervention (Tier 2 & Tier 3)
Provide daily small-group instruction aligned to identified skill gaps in literacy and/or math
Implement evidence-based practices aligned to OSSE Evidence DC and the Science of Reading
Deliver instruction using a consistent structure:
Clear objective
Explicit modeling
Guided practice
Frequent checks for understanding
Immediate feedback
Data-Driven Instruction & Progress Monitoring
Analyze multiple data sources (mCLASS, NWEA MAP, i-Ready, internal assessments) to identify precise skill gaps
Group students based on specific skills (not levels)
Monitor student progress weekly and adjust instruction in real time
Maintain accurate and up-to-date intervention trackers aligned to school expectations
Closing Achievement Gaps
Design and implement targeted plans to accelerate learning for students below grade level
Ensure students demonstrate measurable growth toward grade-level proficiency
Exit students from intervention when mastery is achieved and adjust groups accordingly
Collaboration & MTSS Alignment
Collaborate with classroom teachers, Special Education staff, and leadership to align Tier 1 and Tier 2/3 instruction
Participate in MTSS meetings, data cycles, and instructional planning
Support teachers in strengthening core instruction through insight into student needs
Instructional Excellence
Demonstrate strong instructional practices aligned to the Danielson Framework for Teaching (Domains 2 & 3)
Maintain a structured, engaging, and inclusive learning environment
Use questioning, discourse, and feedback to ensure active student engagement and mastery
Family Communication
Communicate student progress clearly and consistently with families
Support families in understanding how to reinforce skills at home

Core Competencies
Equity & Urgency
Demonstrates an unwavering belief that all students can achieve at high levels
Takes ownership of student outcomes and acts with urgency

Aligns intervention with core instruction
Success Metrics (How Performance Will Be Measured)
Student growth on mCLASS, NWEA MAP, and i-Ready
Reduction in the percentage of students below grade level

Alignment between intervention and Tier 1 instruction
Demonstration of Danielson-aligned instructional practices
What Sets This Role Apart at LEARN DC
Intervention is not remediation—it is acceleration
Instruction is targeted, not generalized
