Organization: Ubongo Learning Reports To:     Disability and Inclusion Specialist Department:   Education and Research (with time spent learning in other departments as required) Contract Duration: 6 Months Number of Posts: 2 About Ubongo: UBONGO is Africa's leading producer of kids' edutainment. As a non-profit social enterprise, we create fun, localized, and multi-platform educational content that helps kids learn and leverage their learning to change their lives. Ubongo reaches over 42 million kids across Africa through accessible technologies like TV, radio, and mobile phones. Our show’s Ubongo Kids and Akili and Me currently air in 23 countries across Africa, in Swahili, English, French, Kinyarwanda, Kikuyu, Luo, Yoruba, Hausa, Chichewa, and Juba Arabic. The Role: Working at Ubongo will excite you with lots of learning opportunities, plenty of fun, and allow you to impact the lives of millions of kids every day. We’re looking for a Neurodiversity Intern to expand and improve our Education and Research department. You’ll work closely with our Disability and Inclusion Specialist, mentors, Education and Research, Production, Digital, Operation, Growth, or Communication and development teams to realize our goal of impacting the lives of 100 million kids across Africa by 2028 by making our content more inclusive of all kids, including Autistic, ADHD, and other disabilities. The neurodiversity internship program occurs at our Ubongo headquarters in Dar es Salaam, beginning in March  2026 and ending in December 2026. During this time, you will get a chance to work in one or more of the following departments: Production, Education, and Research, Digital, Growth, Operations, Communication, and Development roles. The program will include access to professional development training, regular meetings with teams and managers, and opportunities to try out different roles within the organization. The selected interns will meet in the office starting in March 2026 to prepare them for working in an international NGO environment. The first month will involve an introduction and orientation on the work of Ubongo. The purpose is to ease the transition to the workplace and help equip you with the information, resources, and skills needed for a successful experience at Ubongo. Supportive and Inclusive Work Environment We pair the interns with a neurodivergent buddy or mentor throughout the program, who they will meet with periodically at an agreed-upon frequency. Interns also have ongoing check-ins with their managers. Collectively, the interns meet frequently with the program manager to talk through their challenges, successes, and questions in a safe and inclusive environment. Who Qualifies for the Neurodiversity Internship Program? Candidates who are neurodivergent themselves (e.g., autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, etc.) with either or both professional and lived experience are highly encouraged to apply for this internship program. Must identify as neurodivergent. Self-diagnosis is considered valid and accepted for this criterion, with the technical consideration of our expert. Must have completed at least high school. Must be 18 years of age or older. Must demonstrate a genuine interest in the work of Ubongo and a desire to learn more about the world of work. This opportunity should align with the young person's personal goals and aspirations.
