Description

General Requirements Submit an application and successfully complete the screening/interview process. Successfully pass a criminal background and sex-offender registry check. Obtain necessary training/certifications prior to arriving at camp as required by desired position (lifeguard, CHA, WFA/WFR, RN, EMT, etc.). Work required dates, including pre-camp staff training (listed below). All leadership staff must be at least 21 years old and be at least one year out of high school. Leadership Positions Leadership Staff: Our Leadership Team consists of camp professionals who are at least 21 years old and attend additional training. Leadership positions include Activity Leads, Village Coordinator, Waterfront Coordinator, Evening and Weekend Program Coordinator, and Leadership Camp Coordinator. Activity Coordinator Reports to the Program Director and supervises and supports Activity Department Leads. Works to develop a functional activities schedule for both campers and staff. Ensures standards in programming are upheld in all activity departments plus coaches and evaluates activity department leads. New schedules will be created weekly for each session of camp. Time management and organizational skills needed. The Activities Coordinator also serves as a cabin leader, if needed. Activity Department Leads oversee the day-to-day aspects of activities within their department (aquatics, creative arts, performing arts, equestrian, outdoors, and sports) and teach classes when needed. The Activity Leads are responsible for assisting and leading training for the departments staff, scheduling activity staff, conducting performance evaluations of staff, care of the department’s areas and equipment and daily support/coaching of staff in the department. Activity Leads also serves as a cabin leader in a village throughout the summer. Village Coordinators (Head Counselors) oversee the counselors and campers within their village. Vallage Coordinators live outsite of cabins and oversee the village as a whole. They work with other Village and Camp Coordinators to plan large-group, village, or camp-wide programs and activities. Master of Fun (Evening and Weekend Program Coordinator) As a member of the coordinator team, the primary responsibilities include: Planning and leading evening and weekend programs and activities for all of camp and separate divisions. Utilizing and improving Horizons already established programs while creating, planning and leading new and fun ideas for games and events. (Camper supervision may be required) Leadership Camp Coordinator Is responsible for the overall operations of our Leadership Camp program and most importantly, the development of our oldest campers ( rising high school seniors) as they learn and grow through experience to become a great leader. (see website for details) Primary responsibilities include assisting in the development of a quality training program for the Leadership Campers, managing all aspects of Leadership Camp, delivering classroom and hands-on content, informing staff of the roles of Leadership Campers, coaching, and mentoring of Leadership Campers, and conducting an end of season evaluation of camp. Employment Dates: May 31st – August 15th, 2026 Departments: Aquatics: Swim lessons, water polo, water aerobics, water games, and more. All aquatics staff must be certified lifeguards and are responsible for overseeing all aquatics programs and activities at the camp’s pool and lake. Creative Arts: Arts and crafts, photography, nature art, stage makeup, clay work, sketching, and painting. Performing Arts: Guitar lessons, movie making, dance, drama, improv, Dungeons & Dragons, and singing and vocals. Equestrian: English riding lessons, trail rides, horse care, and stable upkeep. Outdoors: Mountain biking, high ropes challenge courses, outdoor living skills, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, rock climbing, caving, tubing, archery, and more. Natural World: Horizons farm, garden, and nature exploration. Sports: Basketball, volleyball, soccer, pickleball, tennis, team sports, ultimate frisbee, yoga, and more. Leadership staff should have experience working with children and expertise in the specific activities that we offer. Training is provided. Many of our counselors return to camp year after year. Certifications: Certifications are required for certain positions and must be current and obtained through a reputable, nationally recognized provider. Aquatics Staff: Lifeguard (including First Aid and CPR) certification preferred prior to the start of camp. Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification is preferred. Horseback Staff: First Aid/CPR certification required (training available). Outdoors Staff: First Aid/CPR certification preferred (training available). Employee Compensation Camp Horizons’ pay structure is based on a flat Summer Contract Rate. This rate is calculated according to the previously agreed upon number of weeks a staff member is expected to work at camp, along with any relevant active certifications the staff member holds. This rate is broken down and paid via bi-weekly stipends with the remaining balance of the contract being paid upon completion of the of summer or previously agreed upon end date. Pay for certifications or other additional payments are added to and paid out in the end of summer balance. Base Salaries Activity Leads $3960 Base Summer Contract Rate (based on 11 weeks) Coordinators $4455 Base Summer Contract Rate (based on 11 weeks) Seasonal Directors commensurate with certifications and experience Employment Dates: May 31st – August 15th, 2026 Staff work 6 days per week with 2 hours off each day and 24 hours off each week.

This rate is calculated according to the previously agreed upon number of weeks a staff member is expected to work at camp, along with any relevant active certifications the staff member holds. This rate is broken down and paid via bi-weekly stipends with the remaining balance of the contract being paid upon completion of the of summer or previously agreed upon end date.
