Description

SUMMARY A Christian Camping Intern will be placed in roles that are up front with guests as well as working behind the scenes. They will be the face, hands, and feet of Black Diamond Camp and God’s purpose here. This unique position will allow Interns to work together as a team and with the other Black Diamond Staff to fill a vital role at Black Diamond by serving groups to fulfill Black Diamonds mission. When not working with guest groups each Intern will get an opportunity to shadow all areas of our camp ministry as well as participate in classes and experiences led by our full-time staff. The internship program at Black Diamond Camps gives you an opportunity to see every side of camping ministry. Through the program, each intern has the opportunity to be mentored by full-time staff as well. The person in this position shall, at all times, demonstrate cooperative behavior towards colleagues, guests and supervisors. Regular attendance is essential for this position. Adherence to a published schedule is expected and required. 1st Term: The first term will be learning what it looks like to work behind the scenes in each different department. Each month each intern will have an opportunity to shadow one of the full-time staff members, in order to learn and experience what it takes to make camp happen. The interns will have an opportunity to shadow hospitality, guest services, operations, administration as well as our summer programs. During the holidays in November and December, the interns will partner with Warm Beach Camp and play a vital role in serving guests on-site during the Lights of Christmas. 2nd Term: The second term will allow interns to take their skills that they have learned and apply them by working alongside designated program directors, hosting retreat groups during meals, as well as take part in leadership roles within the intern program. KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Building relationships with and getting to know our guests, leading group development, running adventure activities, leading outdoor education sessions, prepping for new groups, running retail, cooking, and cleaning camp after groups. Other responsibilities may include: Linen upkeep, special projects installation and removal, challenge course upkeep, event planning, trail maintenance, and other jobs based on interns set of skills or passions. Other duties of ALL Black Diamond Staff: Black Diamond operates year- round. We have guests on the premises almost every day of the year. Serving guests is our number one priority, and therefore ALL staff must participate in guest service in some capacity. Tasks may include, cooking, cleaning, facilitating group activities, running retail locations, general maintenance of the camp property, and work projects as needed. There are often groups here on weekends, and all staff members will be required to work certain weekends as needed. Work Context: This job will be performed primarily on location at Black Diamond Camp at the main campus in Auburn and at the Rainier location. Will have opportunities to work off-site at Warm Beach Camp as well. Travel: Working offsite will happen infrequently during marketing or training trips. Other duties may be assigned.
