Description
Head Teacher - Early Childhood Center - Headstart
University Settlement partners with 40,000+ New Yorkers in Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn every year to build on our collective strengths as we achieve healthy, stable, and remarkable lives. For nearly 140 years, we’ve fought poverty and systemic inequality by building highly effective social services in collaboration with our neighbors. Established in 1886 as the first Settlement House in the United States, we bring the values of that movement into the 21st century by meeting New Yorkers where they live, listening deeply to all perspectives, and creating space for responsive cooperation.
Joining with our neighbors to make stable foundations where people of all ages can grow and pursue their dreams, we build community strength. We infuse a commitment to civic engagement, equality, and communal action into each of our programs, which include early childhood education, youth development, healthy aging, mental health and wellness, English classes for adult immigrants, community centers, and the arts.

Participate in Parent Orientation and Parent-Teacher Conferences
Assist with implementation of the program evaluation process
Plan and use community resources that enrich the educational content of the program
Promote sound parent relationships
Work with children with special needs, attend case conferences and follow-up services
Maintain good working relationships with supervisors and peers
Work with supervisor in completing annual job performance evaluation of self and staff
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

For nearly 140 years, we’ve fought poverty and systemic inequality by building highly effective social services in collaboration with our neighbors. Established in 1886 as the first Settlement House in the United States, we bring the values of that movement into the 21st century by meeting New Yorkers where they live, listening deeply to all perspectives, and creating space for responsive cooperation. \\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\nJoining with our neighbors to make stable foundations where people of all ages can grow and pursue their dreams, we build community strength. We infuse a commitment to civic engagement, equality, and communal action into each of our programs, which include early childhood education, youth development, healthy aging, mental health and wellness, English classes for adult immigrants, community centers, and the arts. \\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\nResponsibilities: \\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tImplement curriculum to provide positive learning experiences for children \\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tPlan and conduct daily classroom plans, maintain observation logs & other documentation \\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tAttend and participate in staff meetings and Staff Development training/workshops \\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tAssess the developmental needs of the children on a timely basis and plan activities to meet their individual needs \\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tWork with Education Director to ensure equipment and supplies are in good condition \\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tParticipate in Parent Orientation and Parent-Teacher Conferences \\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tAssist with implementation of the program evaluation process \\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tPlan and use community resources that enrich the educational content of the program \\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tPromote sound parent relationships \\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tWork with children with special needs, attend case conferences and follow-up services \\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tMaintain good working relationships with supervisors and peers \\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tWork with supervisor in completing annual job performance evaluation of self and staff \\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tPerform other duties as assigned by supervisor \\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\nQualifications: \\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tBachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or other related field required \\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tMaster’s Degree in Early Childhood Education \\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tOne year teaching experience working with children (age 2-5) \\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\tMust have initial ECE certification (birth-2) or valid New York State Permanent Certification or have an approved study plan working toward certification \\r\\n\\t\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\nWork Schedule: Full time, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm, 35 hours per week \\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\nWe are committed to building a diverse and inclusive community.
