Description

Date: May 15, 2026 Title: Assistant Women’s Softball Coach Description : Responsibilities include assisting the head coach in all facets of a competitive NCAA athletic program including but not limited to the recruitment of qualified student-athletes, game-day preparation, practice implementation, social media, support for the head coach and program, team management, community service projects, and fundraising. This position will also include other assignment(s) by the Executive Director of Athletics. Position responsibilities must be completed in accordance with the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, College, Empire 8, NCAA, and other related association rules and regulations. Responsibilities : Assist the head coach in recruiting and retaining qualified students in accordance with the Hartwick Softball Program, Athletic Department, and college standards. Organize recruiting outreach and travel to recruiting events in collaboration with the head coach. Assist the head coach and department in the administrative functions of the program including but not limited to, travel planning, compliance obligations, equipment acquisitions, and general office work. Instruct student-athletes on the rules, fundamentals, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport by designing instructions for individual student-athletes and team needs. Collaborate with the head coach on coaching activities, including team building exercises, determining game strategy, coaching of student-athletes during games and practices, practice preparation, video work, and overall development of student athletes both on and off the field. Assess player’s skills, monitor players during competition and practice, and keep the head coach informed of the athletic performance of students. Demonstrate commitment to excellence, innovation and diversity in undergraduate teaching by building healthy relationships with the students, responding to their concerns, advising students both personally and academically, and contributing to their personal growth and academic success. Create and maintain positive relationships with all internal and external constituents. Be a positive member of the department by supporting other programs and find ways to be involved in the Hartwick College campus community. Participation in major campus events including Welcome Weekend, TrueBlue Weekend, and commencement weekend. Participation in major athletic department fundraising events. Comply with all College, Federal, State, local, NCAA, Empire 8 Conference, College department and associational laws, rules and regulations. As a representative of the College, expected to comport oneself in a professional manner at all times, both on and off campus. No inappropriate relationships with students. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and Executive Director of Athletics including game management or committee service, and teaching PHED skill courses, and PE coaching courses. Qualifications : Minimum requirements for this position is a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. Playing and/or previous coaching experience preferred. Clean driving record and a valid driver’s license and be insurable through the College. General computer skills including Microsoft software (Word, Office, Excel, etc.). Strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Supervisory skills a plus Strong knowledge of the sport Being up to date with safety, rules and regulations and proper certifications Ability to provide academic guidance and mentoring to student-athletes Ability to multi-task and handle a job with a daily change of pace Ability to use independent action, estimating skill, memory, and problem-solving skills The successful candidate will demonstrate effective teaching methods and possess excellent leadership, role modeling, organizational and interpersonal skills, and must have a thorough understanding and working knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations.
