Description

About Valar Atomics At Valar Atomics, we're redefining what's possible in energy. Our mission is to make clean, high-temperature nuclear power scalable—unlocking abundant energy for industry, hydrogen, and next-generation manufacturing. We are a team of builders, engineers, and operators who believe nuclear energy should be fast to deploy, factory-made, and built for the real world. Our first pilot plant in Orangeville, Utah will demonstrate how advanced nuclear systems and fuel fabrication can power the future. Joining Valar Atomics means becoming part of a company where autonomy, ownership, and impact exist at every level. The Role The Site Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of all safety, health, and environmental programs at the site level. This role ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.) while driving a proactive safety culture to minimize risks, eliminate injuries, and reduce environmental impact. The EHS Manager acts as the subject matter expert on site, promoting safe work practices and continuous improvement in safety performance. Key Responsibilities Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with DOE, OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulatory agencies (e.g., DOT, NFPA, local fire department). Maintain necessary permits and submit required reports. Safety Programs Development: Create, update, and manage on-site EHS policies, procedures, and manuals, including HAZCOM, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space, and Industrial Hygiene. Audits & Inspections: Conduct regular facility inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and implement corrective actions. Incident Investigation: Lead thorough incident investigations, near-miss reporting, and root cause analysis to prevent recurrence and share learnings across the company. Training & Education: Design and deliver comprehensive safety training for employees, contractors, and visitors, ensuring compliance with mandatory training requirements. Safety Culture Leadership: Actively promote a culture of safety through coaching, behavior-based initiatives, and engaging employees in hazard recognition. Waste & Environmental Management: Manage on-site hazardous waste storage, disposal, and compliance (RCRA) and minimize the company's environmental footprint. Contractor Management: Oversee the safety practices of suppliers and contractors on site. You Will Be Successful in This Role If You proactively identify hazards before they become accidents, reducing total recordable incident rates (TRIR) within the first 6–12 months. You cultivate a strong safety culture where employees actively report near-misses and feel empowered to speak up about safety concerns, evidenced by increased safety engagement. You achieve 100% compliance in all internal and external EHS audits and regulatory inspections. You effectively communicate complex regulatory requirements to both front-line workers and site management, resulting in high compliance adherence. You quickly build trust and credibility on the shop floor or construction site, engaging directly with workers rather than operating solely from an office. Basic Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related technical field (e.g., Engineering, Chemistry) preferred. Experience: Minimum 5-7 years of EHS leadership experience, preferably within a manufacturing or industrial environment. Technical Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of OSHA (1910/1926) and EPA regulations. Certification: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or similar certification is highly desirable. Preferred Skills and Experience Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with front-line employees and leadership. Analytical: Strong analytical skills to analyze safety data, spot trends, and implement data-driven improvements. Problem-Solving: Ability to evaluate hazardous conditions and develop practical safety solutions. Leadership: Proven ability to influence safety behaviors and lead changes in a fast-paced environment. Technology: Proficiency in EHS Management Software and Microsoft Office Suite. Equal Employment Opportunity Statement Valar Atomics is an equal opportunity employer. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected status under applicable law. We are committed to providing a workplace free of discrimination and harassment and will provide reasonable accommodation as required by law. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (green card holder).
