Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports the independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates, which operate non-profit health centers across the U.S. PPFA also works to educate the public on and advocate for issues of sexual and reproductive health. Formed as the advocacy arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Planned Parenthood Action Fund is a separate non-profit membership organization tax-exempt under section 501(c)(4). The Action Fund engages in educational, advocacy, and limited electoral activity, including grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and voter education in furtherance of the Planned Parenthood mission. Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and Planned Parenthood Action Fund (Action Fund) seeks a strategic, innovative, and experienced National Organizing Director to build and develop the long term power-building infrastructure across the Federation that enables the organization to play a movement leading role in the effort to defend, protect and expand abortion access and access to sexual and reproductive healthcare at all levels of government.  Planned Parenthood seeks to integrate era appropriate and creative deep and scalable organizing practices across the country in order to implement campaigns in the reproductive health arena and other progressive issues affecting its patients and supporters.  The National Director will supervise the 50-state organizing work, including national organizing efforts led by Digital Organizing and in-state organizing programs like the Patient Advocacy Program, Youth Organizing and Constituencies Organizing Programs, and work hand-in-hand with all 53 local advocacy organizations to drive volunteer recruitment, public affairs, and mobilization efforts across the country that ladder into the broader strategic goals of  protecting access to care and building political power.  To support critical organizing and advocacy campaigns, this role manages the formation of national coalitions as needed to drive key organizing goals and peaks. This is a senior leadership role within the Organizing, Engagement and Campaigns (OEC) department and External Affairs Division, with responsibility for managing a diverse staff as well as driving engagements through the Action Fund. The National Director will also be a valuable thought-partner and influencer within the larger division to help shape the growth and direction for advocacy across the Federation. This position also drives alignment across the national office and Federation to key organizing strategy and peaks, including communication with the Executive Leadership Team, affiliate CEOs and PPFA and PPAF boards as needed. This position reports to the Vice-President of Organizing, Elections and Campaigns. Provide transformational, authoritative advice and thought leadership across the progressive movement to ensure intersectional prioritization of sexual and reproductive healthcare, including abortion access. Implements organizing strategies and tactics as part of strategic national campaigns in deep collaboration with the National Campaigns Director Raise the organization's profile and increase relationships within the donor community, modeling thought leadership and expertise. In partnership with senior leadership, the National Director provides strategic thought leadership across the Federation and the broader progressive movement on organizing strategy to restore and protect abortion access and reproductive healthcare. The role also helps elevate Planned Parenthood as a national and global leader in organizing, coalition building, and movement strategy. Engagement: Engage, leverage, and collaborate with local Planned Parenthood organizational leadership and national office divisions, including deep collaboration with local leadership to jointly plan organizing work and peaks and increase participation and engagement in 50-state mobilization moments. Work with the national director leadership team of the Organizing and Electoral Campaigns department to inspire, set clear goals & accountability, and nurture collaboration across the team, including resolving conflicts and optimizing team abilities. Serves as a national representative and spokesperson for Planned Parenthood with external partners and the media, and seeks to coordinate strategies with coalition partners to develop consensus on issues in order to be most effective in our organizing strategies. Builds strategic organizing partnerships and alliances with organizations and leaders across the field. Cultivate relationships with donors and philanthropic partners to elevate the organization’s organizing work and support strategic investment in grassroots power building. Oversee and manage outside consultants and strategic advisors. Delivery: Motivates a team with individual specializations to excel and leads organizational alignment for organizing programs in partnership with the National Campaigns Team and Regional Campaigns and Capacity Team. Designs year-round organizing training and scalable resources to enable effective and consistent organizing efforts across key states, including executing in-person training opportunities for local organizers. Leads, identifies and develops rapid response mobilizations to combat false narratives and/or threats to reproductive freedoms, particularly against Planned Parenthood, levied from both federal and state sources. Designs and develops the team to create the National Organizing Peaks chart and weekly cross-divisional convening that pulls all of the advocacy teams together to align around organizing priorities for the organization. Responsible for routine report-outs that include updates to the President, affiliate CEOs, both Boards and internal PCA leadership. Oversees and manages the team’s stewardship of resources, including sound financial management, budget creation and annual revision and reporting, compliance with electoral and tax regulations, and adhering to practices and procedures set forth by the Federation to manage the financial solvency of the institution. Work with the General Counsel and Chief Financial Office to navigate difficult legal predicaments, as well as ensure training and compliance for all staff members on appropriate administrative procedures. Aligns reporting and project delivery to ensure that the Office of the President, Senior External Affairs Leaders and other internal and external stakeholders have clarity, can offer strategic support, and can leverage successes for organizational growth Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): Over 10+ years of professional experience working as a lead organizer at both the state and national levels, with a mix of electoral, legislative, and movement organizing experience. Commitment to gender justice and reproductive freedom values. Extensive familiarity with women’s and social justice organizations and actors is a plus. Demonstrated track record of mass mobilization combined with strong follow-up organizing to strengthen a supporter base over time. Excellent communication, writing, editing, research, and organizational skills. Experience and comfort with working with diverse constituencies.
