Description

Description Sr. Advanced R&D Engineer/Scientist will apply physics-based computational modeling & simulation necessary for development of novel materials. This position will play a central role in the discovery of new materials by employing state-of-the-art modeling & simulation techniques to provide fundamental insights into material properties and their behavior in applications ranging from battery materials, automotive and stationary refrigeration, electronic materials, personal care, building and construction, pharmaceutical packaging. Key Responsibilities · Understand scientific aspects important for different applications of Solstice products and identify and solve problems where fundamental insights from computational modeling & simulation can accelerate design and development of new materials · Work collaboratively with different experimental groups and act as first screen in design of new materials by rapidly down-selecting from a list of thousands or millions of candidate materials to identify few most promising ones · Develop and implement efficient simulation methodologies required for design of new products/processes, validation of new applications, and plant/customer/regulatory support · Keep up to date with latest developments in modeling & simulation methodologies and implement most promising ones based on current needs · Work simultaneously on multiple projects across diverse areas while ensuring timely deliverables are met · Maintain software versions and licenses up-to-date and work closely with Solstice HPC team to resolve problems encountered during installations and upgrade/refresh of HPC servers · Identify, coordinate, and work with external research, academic and new venture partners to prioritize and accelerate learning of application and material performance requirements · Translate voice of the customer and customer unmet needs to material performance requirements · Follow all related data security, safety, and environmental rules and regulations Qualifications You Must Have: · PhD in Chemical Engineering/Chemistry/Material Science with emphasis on modeling & simulation applied to new material development · Strong expertise in physics-based modeling & simulation technique using quantum and molecular mechanics · 3+ years of experience in advanced materials or specialty chemicals industrial research and/or new product development We Value: · Strong fundamentals and expertise in modeling advanced materials, including fluorochemicals, polymers, catalysts, formulations, and composites · Proficient in developing simulation automation and analysis scripts and implementing on HPC/GPU environment · Familiarity with experimental methods in materials characterization and testing · Experience in employing data science and AI/ML techniques for development of new materials · Working collaboratively on projects involving scientists, engineers, application development, and marketing · External orientation and desire to accurately understand technological trends, customer unmet needs, and working with external partners · Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of engaging with technical and non-technical audiences US Person Requirement Due to compliance with US export control laws and regulations, the candidate must be a US person, which is defined as, a US citizen, a US permanent resident, or have protected status in the US under asylum or refugee status.
