Description

Biohub is the first large-scale initiative bringing frontier AI models, massive compute, and frontier experimental capabilities under one roof. We're building a general-purpose system to accelerate scientific discovery, integrating frontier AI models, biological foundation models, and lab capabilities, with the ultimate goal of curing disease. Our technology powers scientists around the world, translating AI capabilities into tools that accelerate research everywhere. The Team The Biohub is a group of nonprofit research institutes that bring together scientists, engineers, and physicians with the goal of pursuing grand scientific challenges on 10- to 15-year time horizons. The Biohub focuses on understanding underlying mechanisms of disease and developing new technologies that will lead to actionable diagnostics and effective therapies. Our Vision We pursue large scientific challenges that cannot be pursued in conventional environments We enable individual investigators to pursue their riskiest and most innovative ideas The technologies developed at the Biohub facilitate research by scientists and clinicians at our home institutions and beyond Diversity of thought, ideas, and perspectives are at the heart of Biohub and enable disruptive innovation and scholarly excellence. We are committed to cultivating an organization where all colleagues feel inspired and know their work makes an important contribution. The Opportunity Biohub Chicago seeks outstanding early-career experimental scientists with expertise in high-throughput profiling and quantitative biology to join as a Postdoctoral Research Scholar working on single-cell genomics problems in the inflammation space. We welcome candidates from diverse experimental backgrounds—whether rooted in sequencing, imaging, bioengineering, or other modalities—who bring rigorous quantitative thinking and a drive to tackle complex biological questions. This role offers a unique opportunity to work hands-on in a generously funded, highly collaborative environment at the intersection of technology development, bioengineering, and disease-focused discovery. Postdoctoral Research Scholars will be embedded in interdisciplinary teams applying and developing high-throughput single-cell genomics approaches to understand inflammatory disease mechanisms. The successful candidate will design and execute quantitative experiments—using sequencing, imaging, bioengineering, or complementary profiling technologies—to dissect cellular heterogeneity, immune cell states, and tissue-level responses in complex biological systems. This role emphasizes both experimental rigor and computational fluency in the analysis of large-scale, high-dimensional datasets. This position provides strong mentorship alongside meaningful scientific independence within a team-science model that emphasizes collaboration across experimental, computational, and engineering domains. Projects align with the Biohub's mission to uncover fundamental disease mechanisms and to develop transformative measurement technologies that accelerate biomedical research. Biohub Chicago is deeply committed to training scientists for impactful careers in academia, industry, and beyond. What You'll Do Design and execute quantitative, high-throughput experiments linking perturbations to the function of immune and inflammatory systems. Develop, optimize, and apply perturbation readout workflows—including sequencing-based, imaging-based, or multimodal approaches—with rigorous method development, benchmarking, and quality control. Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams spanning immunology, genomics, computation, and bioengineering to address open questions in inflammation biology. Analyze and interpret large-scale, high-dimensional datasets using computational and statistical approaches, and communicate results clearly through figures, presentations, and internal discussions. Disseminate research outputs through high-impact publications, preprints, and open scientific resources, contributing to a culture of open and collaborative science. What You'll Bring PhD in genomics, bioengineering, quantitative biology, systems immunology, computational biology, or a related quantitative life-science field. Hands-on experience with core wet-lab molecular and cellular biology techniques, as well as high-throughput profiling methods. Demonstrated experience in quantitative molecular and cellular biology techniques and high-throughput profiling approaches. Demonstrated expertise in quantitative interpretation of complex, high-dimensional datasets. Strong record of scientific productivity, creativity, and collaborative problem-solving in interdisciplinary research environments. Motivation to pursue innovative, independent research aligned with the Biohub’s mission and to thrive in a hands-on, team-science culture. [Nice to have] Experience with high-throughput profiling platforms (e.g., single-cell RNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics, multiplexed imaging, flow/mass cytometry, or proteomics [Nice to have] Experience working with primary human cells. [Nice to have] Experience with technology or assay development, molecular barcoding, novel nucleic acid technologies, or quantitative imaging methods. [Nice to have] Background in immunology, inflammation biology, or related disease areas. Compensation The Chicago, IL base pay range for a new hire in this role is $71,000-$84,150. New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. Actual placement in range is based on job-related skills and experience, as evaluated throughout the interview process.
