Description
Description
We are seeking a Senior Vice President to lead BNY’s Fund Risk Controlling function in Germany. This senior leader will oversee the delivery, governance, and continuous enhancement of fund risk controls and fund risk reporting across a range of client portfolios and fund structures. The role is responsible for leading a specialist team, ensuring high-quality regulatory and non-regulatory risk reporting, and maintaining robust investment compliance and risk measurement frameworks in line with German regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
The successful candidate will partner closely with clients, auditors, service providers, and internal stakeholders to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant fund risk controlling outcomes while driving process excellence, methodological development, and strong people leadership.
How you will make an impact
Leadership and team development: Lead and mentor a high-performing team of fund risk controlling specialists in an international environment; set goals, build capabilities, and foster a culture aligned with BNY principles. Risk controlling and reporting oversight: Own the execution and enhancement of daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual fund risk controls and reporting processes, ensuring quality, timeliness, and regulatory compliance. Investment compliance governance: Design, implement, and strengthen rules for regulatory, contractual, and internal investment compliance restrictions, with robust monitoring and escalation practices. Stakeholder partnership: Serve as a senior point of contact for clients, auditors, service providers, and internal partners on fund risk controlling and risk reporting topics. Change and innovation: Lead process improvements, support cross-functional change initiatives, and represent the function in strategic projects and relevant industry working groups. Key responsibilities
Lead a team of fund risk controlling specialists, ensuring effective prioritisation, high-quality output, strong collaboration, and continuous professional development. Own the execution and enhancement of fund risk controls and reporting processes, including ex-post investment compliance checks, leverage calculations, market risk measurement, VaR analysis, liquidity risk monitoring, and related validations. Direct the regular production and continuous improvement of regulatory and non-regulatory fund risk reporting, including quarterly AIFMD reporting, annual German derivatives ordinance reporting for UCITS funds, quarterly VaR backtesting outlier reporting, and monthly client risk reporting. Design, implement, and refine rules for regulatory, contractual, and internal investment compliance restrictions to ensure robust control environments and consistent monitoring standards. Drive the development and enhancement of fund risk controlling methodologies, reporting frameworks, and analytical solutions in alignment with German regulatory requirements and best industry practices. Act as a senior advisor to clients on fund risk controlling and reporting matters, providing clear guidance, insight, and resolution for complex queries. Serve as the primary contact for auditors on fund risk controlling and risk reporting topics, coordinating responses, documentation, and review processes. Represent the team in cross-departmental initiatives and external industry forums, including relevant BVI working groups, helping shape and respond to evolving market and regulatory developments. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, control quality, scalability, and service delivery. Maintain strong working relationships across internal teams, serviced clients, service providers, and auditors to support consistent and effective delivery. Support the implementation of process changes arising from regulatory developments, client requirements, or internal transformation initiatives. Track quality, timeliness, and control effectiveness across core processes and drive remediation or enhancement actions where needed. Qualifications – what you bring
5–10 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in Fund Risk Controlling, Investment Compliance, or a similar financial services environment. At least 2–3 years of leadership experience in a supervisor or team lead capacity, with demonstrated ability to lead teams effectively and develop talent.
