Scope of Eligibility
Open to permanent employees in a competitive title that work for the Division of Sustainable Waste Management and meet the requirements below.

Description
Under general supervision of a supervisory official in a state department, institution, agency, or local government agency, takes the lead or may supervise the performance of engineering work including but not limited to water management, air pollution control/management, coastal resource management, hazardous/non-hazardous waste control/management; reviews engineering plans, makes determinations and/or recommendations on plans; field visits, inspections, investigations/surveys; gathers data, researches and analyzes information as it relates to environmental control work; and/or the enforcement of environmental laws and/or regulations; works with Environmental Impact Statements; does related work as required.
Specific to the Position
This position will conduct technical reviews of complex applications for Hazardous Waste facilities, and waste classifications, to ensure they are constructed and operated in accordance with the requirements of the Solid Waste Management Act as well as the Solid Waste and Recycling Regulations. This position is required to supervise staff to properly conduct and manage reviews for complex hazardous waste facility permit applications, waste classifications, RD&D projects, and draft permit conditions to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Liaison to EJ office and included in planning for emergency debris management.
Preferred Skill Set
Strong leadership and mentoring skills to ensure staff development while creating a positive and cohesive work environment. The candidate will be required to publicly speak, and the position requires strong oral and written communication skills.
Requirements
EDUCATION
Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental, Ocean, Coastal, Bio-Resource, Sanitary, Industrial, Agricultural or Mining Engineering, or other field of engineering related to the environment.
NOTE: A valid Professional Engineer's license issued by the New Jersey State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
EXPERIENCE:
Three (3) years of professional experience in environmental engineering work.
NOTE: A Master's degree in one of the fields specified above may be substituted for one (1) year of the above experience.
NOTE: All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university. All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting. Failure to provide documentation may result in ineligibility.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
