Description
Wood is recruiting for a Field Piping Designer IV to join its Projects business unit, supporting brownfield surface facilities retrofits, expansions, and debottlenecking projects, primarily supporting the Mechanical Engineering Design needs in Northern Colorado.
Northern Colorado area candidates strongly preferred, no per diem or relocation are available for this role. No outside agencies. Candidates must be eligible to work in the US with visa sponsorship now or in the future.

As a Field Piping Designer IV , you will be responsible for developing layouts and designs for brownfield projects across multiple engineering disciplines, including pipeline capacity expansion and debottlenecking, crude oil separation, water treatment, and mechanical retrofits. You will conduct site walkdowns, develop mark-ups, and create as-built documentation to ensure the highest standards of accuracy and compliance.

Responsibilities
Job Objective:
Contribute to engineering excellence by linking design theory and practical application, translating critical design concepts into workable plans for tangible end-products.
Prepare engineering drawings from rough sketches or general engineering information Create designs and detailed plans for commercial, industrial, and civil sector structures and systems Handle technical assignments of substantial variety and complexity Prepare mechanical or digital drawings, diagrams, blueprints, and models using CAD/CADD software Role and Key Accountabilities:
Produce facility designs and layouts with knowledge of structural, mechanical, controls, and electrical equipment systems Understand codes applicable to equipment and construction (NEC, IEC, ASME, AISC, AWS, OSHA, NFPA, local codes, and Chevron Engineering Standards) Perform design tasks for purchasing and construction level drawings with limited supervision Create reliable CAD models with precision, including assemblies, exploded view diagrams, and layouts with BOMs Develop and improve department practices/standards Review scope documents and specifications to ensure design meets SOW expectations and client requirements Execute designs on challenging projects Conduct design reviews and travel to client jobsites as required Typically, 15+ years of relevant design experience in oil and gas, industrial construction, or power generation industries Develop working drawings from equipment specifications and detailed drawings Create drawings involving plans, layouts, calculations, and bills of material Perform layouts, design, and checking work from basic data supplied Design and make detail drawings from rough sketches involving intricate calculations Establish project drafting standards and monitor their conformance Identify cost-effective solutions to design problems Assist in bid evaluations Design and construct models, prototypes, processes, or equipment Prepare estimates of time, quantities, materials, and labor required for testing, installation, manufacture, design, or construction Generate bill of materials from finished designs Act as coordinator on small projects and prepare specifications for complex equipment and processes Ensure quality in design and technical accuracy in drawings and material quantities Plan assigned work effectively and liaise with the project team and line manager Conduct site visits/surveys and provide inputs to site visit reports

• Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical or piping design within oil & gas, industrial construction, or power generation industries
• Proven field experience performing walkdowns and interpreting engineering documents (P&IDs, piping specifications, line lists, etc.)
• Strong understanding of piping materials, systems, and engineering principles
• Proficiency in CAD and 3D modeling software
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
Desirable:
• 15+ years of total design experience in oil & gas or industrial facilities

"InternalResponsibilitiesStr": "<p><strong>Job Objective:</strong><br />Contribute to engineering excellence by linking design theory and practical application, translating critical design concepts into workable plans for tangible end-products.</p><ul><li>Prepare engineering drawings from rough sketches or general engineering information</li><li>Create designs and detailed plans for commercial, industrial, and civil sector structures and systems</li><li>Handle technical assignments of substantial variety and complexity</li><li>Prepare mechanical or digital drawings, diagrams, blueprints, and models using CAD/CADD software</li></ul><p><strong>Role and Key Accountabilities:</strong></p><ul><li>Produce facility designs and layouts with knowledge of structural, mechanical, controls, and electrical equipment systems</li><li>Understand codes applicable to equipment and construction (NEC, IEC, ASME, AISC, AWS, OSHA, NFPA, local codes, and Chevron Engineering Standards)</li><li>Perform design tasks for purchasing and construction level drawings with limited supervision</li><li>Create reliable CAD models with precision, including assemblies, exploded view diagrams, and layouts with BOMs</li><li>Develop and improve department practices/standards</li><li>Review scope documents and specifications to ensure design meets SOW expectations and client requirements</li><li>Execute designs on challenging projects</li><li>Conduct design reviews and travel to client jobsites as required</li><li>Typically, 15+ years of relevant design experience in oil and gas, industrial construction, or power generation industries</li><li>Develop working drawings from equipment specifications and detailed drawings</li><li>Create drawings involving plans, layouts, calculations, and bills of material</li><li>Perform layouts, design, and checking work from basic data supplied</li><li>Design and make detail drawings from rough sketches involving intricate calculations</li><li>Establish project drafting standards and monitor their conformance</li><li>Identify cost-effective solutions to design problems</li><li>Assist in bid evaluations</li><li>Design and construct models, prototypes, processes, or equipment</li><li>Prepare estimates of time, quantities, materials, and labor required for testing, installation, manufacture, design, or construction</li><li>Generate bill of materials from finished designs</li><li>Act as coordinator on small projects and prepare specifications for complex equipment and processes</li><li>Ensure quality in design and technical accuracy in drawings and material quantities</li><li>Plan assigned work effectively and liaise with the project team and line manager</li><li>Conduct site visits/surveys and provide inputs to site visit reports</li></ul>",
