The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing and overseeing developmentally appropriate play activities and interactions in the all LPCHS playrooms, at the bedside, in designated waiting rooms, and other assigned areas. This position interviews, orients, trains, evaluates competence and oversees Child Life volunteers. Assists with the planning and implantation of special events/visitors, orders and maintains playroom supplies, creates activity schedule and assists with donations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The essential functions listed are typical examples of work performed by positions in this job classification. They are not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, tasks, and responsibilities. Employees may also perform other duties as assigned. Employees must abide by all Joint Commission Requirements including but not limited to sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights and ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, participation in ongoing education and training, communication and adherence to safety and quality programs, sustaining compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, and licensure and health screenings. Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct. * Maintains safe ratio/space for patients and families (IV pole, wheelchair accessibility, etc.) * Plans and implements group activities for patients and families which are developmentally appropriate and based on needs assessment in the LPCHS playrooms, play spaces, waiting rooms, bedside, and other designated areas. * Assists in the planning, coordination and facilitation of special events and special visitors. * Shares observations of child's developmental, physical and emotional behavior, along with relevant family information, with the other members of the Child Life and Creative Arts team verbally and/or through our child life hand off process. * Interviews, orients, trains, evaluates competence and oversees Child Life volunteers. * Assists with acceptance of donations and other donation related responsibilities. * Provides developmentally appropriate play activities and orientation to Child Life Services for patients at bedside. * Provides and maintains age-appropriate supplies in compliance with safety and infection control policies, assists in inventory control, ordering of supplies and storage of supplies. * Develops, edits, prints, and distributes playroom calendar, flyers for events and banners for Get Well TV . * Evaluates programs and services. Records statistics and other data needed for program evaluation. * Develops new program/initiatives to meet patients' needs. * Collaborates with media coordination team to set up patient activities. * Assists in development of best practices for play and programming standards. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying. Education: Associate's degree in work-related field Experience: One (1) year of progressively responsible directly related work experience. License/Certification: None required. KNOWLEDGE These are the observable and measurable attributes and skills required to perform successfully the essential functions of the job and are generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education or licensure/certification. * Ability to assess and meaningfully interact with infants, children youth and families. * Ability to provide a safe, therapeutic and healing environment for infants, children, youth and families. * Ability to develop and evaluate services. * Ability to implement services within the structure and culture of the work environment. * Ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus. * Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. * Ability to communicate with others in all formats: written, oral, interpersonal. * Ability to display independent judgment and initiative. * Ability to establish and sustain relationships with staff members and a variety of internal and external working groups and individuals. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The Physical Requirements and Working Conditions in which the job is typically performed are available from the Occupational Health Department. Pay Range Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
