Description Description of Job Duty: The Assistant Director for Student Activities and Campus Life advances a vibrant, student-centered campus experience by coordinating major traditions, weekend programming, and large-scale events in collaboration with key campus partners. The role provides operational and facilities support for programs in the Roaden University Center (RUC); advises and supervises student programming boards; leads marketing and communication efforts; and utilizes engagement data to strengthen programs and outcomes. Through effective event management, student development, and cross-campus collaboration, the Assistant Director enhances belonging, involvement, and campus life at Tennessee Tech. Responsibilities Essential Functions: Develop, plan, and execute campus‑wide programs, including signature annual events such as Homecoming and large‑scale concerts and campus activities. Coordinate weekend and late‑night student activities in collaboration with Athletics, Fraternity/Sorority Life, and Residential Life. Advise, supervise, and support student programming boards, including the SOLO Events Committee and the Homecoming Committee, to ensure high‑quality, student‑driven programming. Oversee event logistics, scheduling, and operational support for programs hosted in the Roaden University Center (RUC), including room setups, equipment coordination, and on‑site event support. Manage and develop marketing and communication strategies for student activities, including social media, digital content, print materials, and other promotional efforts. Utilize web‑based platforms to manage and track student engagement data, assess participation trends, and collect feedback to inform program improvement and enhance student engagement outcomes. Collaborate with student organizations and campus departments to expand engagement opportunities and strengthen campus traditions. Support risk‑management practices, compliance expectations, and safety protocols for student events and activities. Engage in professional development opportunities and relevant associations to maintain current knowledge of best practices in student activities and campus life. Support campus events and divisional initiatives as needed and perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Student Affairs. Physical Demands: Those typical of an office environment. Work Hours: Typical hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with some evenings and weekends required. Special Instructions: Applicants are required to electronically upload a cover letter, resume, copy of transcripts (official transcripts required upon hire), and complete contact information for three references. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with four years of related experience, or a master’s degree from an accredited institution in Higher Education Leadership, College Student Personnel, Education, or a related field with two years of experience (graduate assistantship or professional) in a student activities, student engagement, or student involvement office. Experience planning, coordinating, or supporting campus events, student programs, or large ‑ scale activities. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and campus partners in a collaborative, student ‑ centered environment. Experience managing marketing and communication efforts, including social media, digital content, and promotional materials. Strong organizational, communication, and problem ‑ solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and support events during evenings and weekends as required. Preferred Qualifications: Two to three years of full ‑ time professional experience as a coordinator or similar role in student engagement, campus activities, or related functional areas. Graduate assistantships or student leadership roles (e.g., officer of a student organization) may be considered equivalent to part ‑ time professional experience. Experience advising or supervising student programming boards, committees, or student leaders. Proficiency with web ‑ based engagement platforms and data ‑ tracking tools used to assess student participation and program effectiveness. Experience working in a university student union or campus event ‑ support environment.
