Description
This is a part-time position (up to 30 hours per week) with the potential to be full-time in the future. Work location is on-site at our Dowagiac campus.
Commitment to Citizen Service
Service encompasses all aspects of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indian’s governmental operations. Every employee shares the responsibility to provide exemplary service, dignity, and respect to all Tribal Citizens, the Tribal Council, and staff members. To this end, all employees have an obligation to identify and report any service problems, issues, or concerns and through designated channels, initiate, recommend, and actively participate in solutions.
Position Summary:
Responsible for securing external funding and other resources to support the Pokagon Band’s strategic initiatives.
Essential Functions:
Develop proposals and other funding mechanisms to maximize external revenues for the Band. Collaborate with the Directors and other staff, responsible for the development of all phases of the proposal process including program design, goals and objectives, outcomes and evaluation, budget and budget justification, project narrative, timelines and work plans, partnerships, memoranda of agreement and letters of support, charts and graphs, and all other related documents. Conduct research on potential funding sources, network with external agencies regarding potential funding sources. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of issues and trends affecting Native American Tribes. Determine feasibility of the development of programs to supplement annual budget allocations. Discuss program requirements and sources of funds with department Supervisors, program Directors, and the Government Manager. Confer with program Directors to develop goals and objectives, outline how funds are to be used, and to explain procedures necessary to obtain funding. Write grant applications according to required format and submit applications to funding agency or foundation. Coordinate project activities; prepare correspondence and presentation materials. Meet with representatives of funding sources and others, as needed, to learn of funding opportunities and determine requirements for securing the funding. Meet with department Directors regularly to discuss goals and funding opportunities and attend department events to gain a better understanding of department activities. Prepare Request for Proposals for bid and/or solicitations. Track proposal deadlines and coordinate their timely execution. Travel locally and out of the area, as required, for job related training; attend all internal and external meetings and functions, as required. Track in-progress, pending, submitted and awarded proposals, and submit status reports, as requested. Provide evaluation of grant projects to measure outcomes and impact. Non-Essential Functions:

Standard office equipment. Systems used: MS Office applications, and Internet. Position Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Education, Social Work, or Business Administration/Management or other related field from an accredited institution whose program of study has been recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, or the United States Department of Education is required. A minimum of three (3) years of experience in grant writing, fundraising, or resource development is required. Experience in bringing a grant from concept to fruition and a verifiable history of successful grant projects, or prior success in the awarding is required. Utmost discretion is required when working with sensitive, confidential material and information. Proficiency with MS Office applications is required. Strong delivery of positive service and good communication skills, both oral and written. Must be able to work independently, as well as part of a team. Knowledge, intellect, temperament, and flexibility to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Indian Preference:
Pokagon Band Preference Code applies. Physical Requirements:
Work is generally sedentary in nature and will frequently require sitting, however standing and walking will occasionally be necessary. Frequently required to use hands and fingers to operate equipment. Frequently required to talk and hear. Work Environment:
General office environment. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available. Local travel is necessary, so the ability to travel as needed is required. Competencies:
