Description

Position: Supervisory Dentist Division: Ponca Health Services Department: Dental Services Reports To: Chief Dental Officer Location: Norfolk Exempt/Non-Exempt: Exempt/Non-Exempt OSHA High Risk Pay Grade: Grade 22 ($160,661.60 - $234,179.94) Classification: Full-time Summary: The Ponca Tribe of Nebraska is a federally recognized Tribe with its ancestral homeland located in Niobrara, NE. The Tribe does not have a reservation in the classic definition; rather, the Ponca Restoration Act defined its jurisdiction as a ‘Service Delivery Area’ comprised of 15 counties throughout parts of Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota. Within its Service Delivery Area, the Tribe offers a broad range of health, social, educational, and cultural services. To provide primary dental care services to all federally recognized enrolled Tribal members and other eligible patients. Performs professional dental work to a population whose oral health needs could be advanced and the procedures could be of greater difficulty. This position manages the clinic staff, schedules, training, staff development and reviews, supplies, financial stewardship, and infection control. Essential Responsibilities and Duties: Provide primary and secondary preventative measure first and tertiary measures as a third priority in the practice of dentistry. Such services shall include, but not limited to the following: Emergency services: diagnosis and treatment of pain, infection, swelling, bleeding and trauma. Primary prevention to include oral health education, topical and systemic fluorides, periodontal prophylaxis, oral cancer screenings and dental exams, dental sealants as appropriate. Secondary prevention to include periodic examinations with radiographs, prompt treatment of oral lesions and compulsory exams. Basic oral services to include restorative, endodontics, oral surgery and space maintenance. Tertiary measures to include some molar endodontics, crown and bridge, removable complete and partial dentures, and mouth guards. Employee shall provide supervision to dental support staff – including staff dentists, hygienists, dental assistants and receptionists. Participates in the hiring selections and dismissal process. Conducts staff reviews and if needed, training for growth and discipline actions. Works to increase # of patients and production numbers. Support financial stewardship. Orientates new staff. Conducts staff training and staff meetings. Works with CDO/DDC on implementing program goals. Runs and interrupts reports as needed. Manages the staffing scheduling. Handles patient concerns. Employee shall work with health professions’ schools and training programs to train dental residents, dental assistants or other ancillary dental staff as times and resources allow. Such activity may not impair the Ponca Dental Clinics timely treatment of patients. Employee shall maintain adequate and current dental records. All files, charts, records, dental or otherwise generated by the employee during this employment are the property of the employer and stay in dental clinic. Employee shall assist in development of the oral health care plan and for documenting quality improvement planning and results. The dentist and the Chief Dental Officer/Deputy Dental Chief shall communicate regularly to coordinate areas of mutual concern including but not limited to the area of dental health planning, scheduling, staff etc. Other duties as assigned. Relationships and Authority: The employee is responsible to the Chief Dental Officer/Deputy Dental Chief for the provision of dental care under the above responsibilities and duties. The dentist utilizes professional knowledge to provide care. The dentist has the obligation and duties to supervise the chair-side dental assistant, dental hygienist and front desk staff. Working Environment and Physical Demands: Work requires long periods of standing, bending, reaching and lifting of boxes of dental supplies weight up to 50lbs or less. Work is subject to on occasion emotionally upset patients, family members, personnel and visitors. Qualifications: Minimum: License to practice dentistry in any state or U.S. territory with no restrictions. CPR certified. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Computer proficiency with dental software experience. Valid driver’s license and be insurable. Successfully pass drug and alcohol testing, motor vehicle, education, character, and criminal background checks. Knowledge of dental practice management software and imaging software. Able and willing to travel. Preferred: One, two is more ideal, years’ experience working with Native Americans or Native American organizations. Dental faculty or teaching experience beneficial to mentor in clinic. One or more years’ experience as a Dentist in the state of Nebraska or a reciprocal state/territory. Knowledge and understanding of Public Law 93-638: Indian Self Determination Act. Preference will be given to Ponca Tribe of Nebraska members or members of a federally recognized tribe. However, all qualified individuals are eligible. The Ponca Tribe of Nebraska is an at-will employer. Tribal Council Approval: 03/05/2024

Such services shall include, but not limited to the following:</span><ol style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;list-style-type: lower-alpha;\"><li style=\"margin-top: 0in;margin-right: 0in;margin-bottom: 10pt;line-height: 115%;font-size:15px;font-family: initial;\"><span style='font-family:\"Arial\",sans-serif;'>Emergency services: diagnosis and treatment of pain, infection, swelling, bleeding and trauma.</span></li><li style=\"margin-top: 0in;margin-right: 0in;margin-bottom: 10pt;line-height: 115%;font-size:15px;font-family: initial;\"><span style='font-family:\"Arial\",sans-serif;'>Primary prevention to include oral health education, topical and systemic fluorides, periodontal prophylaxis, oral cancer screenings and dental exams, dental sealants as appropriate.</span></li><li style=\"margin-top: 0in;margin-right: 0in;margin-bottom: 10pt;line-height: 115%;font-size:15px;font-family: initial;\"><span style='font-family:\"Arial\",sans-serif;'>Secondary prevention to include periodic examinations with radiographs, prompt treatment of oral lesions and compulsory exams.</span></li><li style=\"margin-top: 0in;margin-right: 0in;margin-bottom: 10pt;line-height: 115%;font-size:15px;font-family: initial;\"><span style='font-family:\"Arial\",sans-serif;'>Basic oral services to include restorative, endodontics, oral surgery and space maintenance.</span></li><li style=\"margin-top: 0in;margin-right: 0in;margin-bottom: 10pt;line-height: 115%;font-size:15px;font-family: initial;\"><span style='font-family:\"Arial\",sans-serif;'>Tertiary measures to include some molar endodontics, crown and bridge, removable complete and partial dentures, and mouth guards.&nbsp;</span></li></ol></li><li style=\"margin-top:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:10.0pt;margin-left:0in;line-height:115%;font-size:15px;font-family: initial;\"><span style='font-family:\"Arial\",sans-serif;'>Employee shall provide supervision to dental support staff &ndash; including staff dentists, hygienists, dental assistants and receptionists. Participates in the hiring selections and dismissal process. Conducts staff reviews and if needed, training for growth and discipline actions. Works to increase # of patients and production numbers. Support financial stewardship. Orientates new staff. Conducts staff training and staff meetings. Works with CDO/DDC on implementing program goals. Runs and interrupts reports as needed. Manages the staffing scheduling. Handles patient concerns.</span></li><li style=\"margin-top:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:10.0pt;margin-left:0in;line-height:115%;font-size:15px;font-family: initial;\"><span style='font-family:\"Arial\",sans-serif;'>Employee shall work with health professions&rsquo; schools and training programs to train dental residents, dental assistants or other ancillary dental staff as times and resources allow. Such activity may not impair the Ponca Dental Clinics timely treatment of patients.&nbsp;</span></li><li style=\"margin-top:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:10.0pt;margin-left:0in;line-height:115%;font-size:15px;font-family: initial;\"><span style='font-family:\"Arial\",sans-serif;'>Employee shall maintain adequate and current dental records.
