Savannah River National Laboratory's (SRNL) Global Security Directorate is seeking an Actinide Scientist with an established reputation in the field of actinide science/engineering and interest in advancing SRNL’s mission areas in actinide science, nuclear material processing, and nuclear non-proliferation.
Responsibilities
The selected candidate will have the following responsibilities:
Work on projects for NNSA supported programs within the offices of NA-22, -23, and -24 and provide technical support for SRS nuclear processing facilities. Apply chemical and engineering principles to solve problems/address challenges associated with: nuclear material/fuel dissolution; separations processes (e.g., solvent extraction, ion exchange, and pyro processing); actinide precipitation/finishing; and materials characterization. R&D that may include development of new chemical processing flowsheets for the separation of actinide materials from fuels or targets; development of engineering data to support safe operation of nuclear material processing facilities; demonstration of chemical processes at an appropriate scale to address technical issues observed during existing operations. Work with nuclear materials and perform or oversee work in radiological hoods, gloveboxes, and shielded cells. The selected candidate is expected to support various programs and build and expand new programs complementary to their skill set.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
BS + 4-6 yrs; MS + 3-5 yrs; PhD + 2-4 yrs Degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or equivalent relevant field is required For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required Preferred Qualifications:
MS or PhD is preferred Consideration will also be given to candidates that develop or support programs that oversee and develop scope for multi-laboratory programs.

The Global Security Directorate (GSD) of SRNL provides a team focused on staff development and infrastructure upgrades for nuclear reprocessing science and technology programs at SRNL. GSD is growing its support of its critical NNSA nonproliferation portfolios and is building its teams to support these enduring programs. GSD is looking for people who can use their talents and experience to help build state of the art business programs as SRNL continues to use it diverse creative staff to deliver the highest quality programs to its customer.
