All applicants must meet eligibility guidelines as specified by&nbsp;</em></strong><a href=\"https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/services/funding/canada-summer-jobs/youth/plan.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><em>Service Canada</em></strong></a><strong><em>&nbsp;in order to be considered for the above position.</em></strong></p><p style=\"margin-left:0cm;\"><strong><em>This position will begin on June 1, 2026, and conclude on July 27, 2026 (8 weeks).</em></strong></p><p style=\"margin-left:0cm;\"><strong>&nbsp;</strong></p><p style=\"margin-left:0cm;\"><strong>Organization Background</strong></p><p style=\"margin-left:0cm;\">Shepherd Village is Toronto&rsquo;s largest not-for-profit senior community and has been dedicated to the well-being of seniors since 1961. We&rsquo;re committed to meeting the changing physical, spiritual and social needs of seniors through quality care and compassionate service. Everything we offer is designed to enhance the quality of life and peace-of-mind of our residents, and their family and friends.</p><p style=\"margin-left:0cm;\"><strong>&nbsp;</strong></p><p style=\"margin-left:0cm;\"><strong>What You Will Work On</strong></p><p style=\"margin-left:0cm;\">Under the supervision of the Executive Assistant &amp; the President and CEO, the Communication Adviser is responsible for assisting in all areas within the department, including, but not limited to, the following:</p><p style=\"margin-left:0cm;\"><strong>How You&rsquo;ll Create Impact</strong></p><ul type=\"disc\"><li style=\"margin-left:0cm;\">Plan and execute an annual communications plan, which may include digital media and traditional communication vehicles such as newsletters, brochures, and other promotional materials as deemed appropriate.</li><li style=\"margin-left:0cm;\">Assist with producing the Annual Report and other marketing materials as assigned.</li><li style=\"margin-left:0cm;\">Generate media stories from a variety of sources.&nbsp;</li><li style=\"margin-left:0cm;\">Other responsibilities include developing and maintaining contacts with key media contacts, community leaders, and other external audiences.</li><li style=\"margin-left:0cm;\">Conduct interviews with residents and write their stories to be published on the organization&rsquo;s website.</li><li style=\"margin-left:0cm;\">Participate in the organization&rsquo;s community activities.</li></ul><p style=\"margin-left:0cm;\"><strong>What Are Your Skills and Experience</strong></p><ul type=\"disc\"><li style=\"margin-left:0cm;\">Post-secondary education in progress</li><li style=\"margin-left:0cm;\">Proficiency in MS Office Suites</li><li style=\"margin-left:0cm;\">Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines</li><li style=\"margin-left:0cm;\">Strong writing skills</li><li style=\"margin-left:0cm;\">Ability to work together with all staff members; ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment</li><li style=\"margin-left:0cm;\">Detail-orientated and time management skills are essential; confidentiality and tact are imperative.</li><li style=\"margin-left:0cm;\">Ability to communicate professionally in person and by phone</li><li style=\"margin-left:0cm;\">Strong customer service skills required</li></ul><p style=\"margin-left:0cm;\"><strong>&nbsp;</strong></p><p style=\"margin-left:0cm;\"><strong>What youth participants are eligible?&nbsp;</strong></p><p style=\"margin-left:0cm;\">To be eligible, youth must:&nbsp;</p><ul type=\"disc\"><li style=\"margin-left:0cm;\">be between 15 and 30 years of age <strong>at the beginning&nbsp;</strong>of the employment period*;&nbsp;</li><li style=\"margin-left:0cm;\">be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the <em>Immigration and Refugee Protection Act&nbsp;</em>for the duration of the employment**; and,&nbsp;</li><li style=\"margin-left:0cm;\">have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.&nbsp;</li></ul><p style=\"margin-left:0cm;\">*The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.&nbsp;</p><p style=\"margin-left:0cm;\">**International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.
