Description

Application close date: 12 June 2026 The Position The School of Professional Accounting is seeking a qualified and experienced academic to join its BCom in Accounting team within the Undergraduate Department as Lecturer in the Analysis and Decision-Making (ANDM) Theme Team . The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for delivering ANDM modules , tailored specifically to meet the needs of accounting students on the BCom in Accounting. Experience with an online learning platform is ideal, but not a requirement of the role. All staff in the school work remotely and therefore, applications from anywhere in South Africa will be accepted. Some important aspects to take note of, given that our working environment differs from a standard educational institution in a number of ways: 1. Research expectation This role, along with all our current permanent academic positions, does not carry with it an expectation for the performance of any formal research. Learning and reflecting is an important part of our values and we seek to apply best practice in all that we do. However, our focus is not on formal research output and, as such, our systems and processes are not designed to either support or reward individuals committed to traditional research. 2. After-hours availability Our programmes are designed to be flexible and accommodate students who find themselves in a wide range of circumstances, specifically including working students. As a result, we offer synchronous, online live sessions to our students after-hours on a weekly basis – these occur between 5:30pm and 7:30pm on weeknights (Monday to Thursday). Additionally, academic staff members are expected to be available for after-hours online, and one-on-one consultations with students for a few hours each week, either in the evenings or early in the mornings before normal working hours. 3. Remote working and travel expectations The majority of our team works entirely online, as our courses are completely online. Therefore, all members of staff are expected to have a stable and reliable source of access to the internet, a backup plan in case of loadshedding and a suitable home office environment. (IT equipment, including a laptop, screen and other essentials will be provided by Milpark.) Additionally, the team gathers in person in Cape Town roughly 4 times per year and so members of staff located elsewhere in the country are expected to travel to Cape Town for those meetings.  These may require up to three nights away at a time. (The cost of this travel is covered by Milpark.) 4. Salary bands We seek to compensate our staff fairly and remunerate them in line with market-related rates. That being said, we believe that working in our team has much to offer in terms of job fulfillment and team culture which cannot be captured in monetary terms. Responsibilities Specific responsibilities include: Online delivery of modules in the ANDM theme. Working collaboratively with all staff of the school. Material development and maintenance. Live online session delivery to large groups of students. One-on-one consultations with students and responding to student queries in a timely manner. Assessment setting, marking and administration. Participating in departmental meetings, contributing to programme reviews and performing administrative tasks relevant to the role. Fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students feel encouraged to participate, ask questions, and explore complex concepts applicable to professional accountants, such as management accounting, financial management and digital skills. Professional Development, Collaboration and Engagement: Stay abreast of developments in the relevant fields of accounting, information technology and education and continuously update and enhance knowledge and skills through professional development activities. Collaborate with colleagues within the School of Professional Accounting and across other departments or disciplines to promote interdisciplinary learning and research initiatives. Engage with industry partners, professional associations, and regulatory bodies to ensure that the curriculum remains relevant and responsive to the evolving needs of the accounting profession. Education & Experience Requirements NQF level 8 qualification (Honours or Postgraduate Diploma) in the subject area of professional accounting from a recognised university. Demonstrated expertise in relevant areas, with sufficient experience that intersects with accounting/management accounting and financial management principles. Proficiency in basic and advanced Microsoft Excel functions and formulae, with the ability to analyse, interpret, and report on data. Previous experience teaching at the undergraduate or postgraduate level, preferably in a professional or vocational context would be an advantage. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students from diverse backgrounds. Excellent organisational and time management abilities, with a commitment to delivering high-quality teaching and assessment outcomes. A collaborative and collegial approach to working with colleagues, students, and external stakeholders. Key Selection Criteria Practical exposure to accounting and programming software and other relevant information technology. Strong verbal and written communication skills. A passion for developing students through genuine care. Self motivation and organisational skills An industrious and gregarious attitude with the ability to learn, solve problems, innovate and complete tasks without close supervision. Emotional intelligence with an aptitude and desire to build relationships. Applicants may come from various professional backgrounds. Registration or eligibility to register with a professional body, CA(SA)/CIMA designation is advantageous. Applicants with a relevant honours degree or postgraduate diploma (NQF 8) in the subject area are encouraged to apply. By submitting your personal information and application, you hereby confirm: That you have read and understood our Privacy Policy/Notice. To access, copy and paste the link into your web browser: https://resource.milpark.ac.za/public/downloads/Milpark%20Education%20Applicant%20and%20Employee%20Privacy%20Notice.pdf That you have no objection to us reviewing and processing any personal information provided in the course of your application, as well as any information that you have provided in support of your application. That you have no objection to us retaining your personal information in our database for future employment opportunities that might arise. Preference will be given to applicants from designated groups, and appointments will be made in line with our EE requirements.
