Description

Description Under limited supervision, responsible for receiving clinical specimens, checking the requisitions and specimens for accuracy, accessioning the specimens, entering the orders into our laboratory information system, distributing worksheets to the medical technologists, and ensuring results are successfully reported to clients as part of our clinical services. Responsibilities Assist with the day-to-day processes in a clinical lab setting. Assist in gathering all documentation, including care plans and consent forms for all patients. Maintain accurate inventory records for all specimen. Assist with inventory database maintenance and tracking for all specimen including billing, tracking payments and collection from patients. Oversee logistics of specimen shipments, both incoming and outgoing. Receive and accession specimens into the laboratory information system (LIS). Manage laboratory billing processes and order necessary office supplies with oversight by the practice supervisor. Ensure timely communication of laboratory results including semen analysis to referring physicians. Perform data entry and facilitate Quality Management meetings and outcome tracking. Assist in preparations for FDA and CAP inspections. May perform additional duties as needed. Qualifications Ability to work independently within established guidelines, apply problem-solving skills, meet deadlines and meet urgent patient, provider, and system needs. Ability to collaborate with laboratory staff to maintain a clean and organized work environment. Ability to perform waived testing procedures according to established protocols and regulatory guidelines. Knowledge of recording and maintaining accurate documentation of waived test results. Ability to verify the accuracy of patient information and specimen labeling. Knowledge of labeling, documenting, and preparing collected specimens for transport to the laboratory. Knowledge of relevant laboratory safety and infection control protocols. Knowledge of laboratory information systems (LIS) is an asset. EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent is required. EXPERIENCE: 5 years' experience specimen processing within a clinical laboratory setting. LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS: Completion of a certified phlebotomy program or equivalent is preferred. This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.
