To learn more about what we offer, please refer to UW’s <a href=\"https://www.uwyo.edu/hr/_files/docs/employee-benefits/benefit-summary.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Benefits Summary</a>.&nbsp;</p>\n<p><b>JOB TITLE: &nbsp;</b></p>\n<p>Heavy equipment operator  &nbsp;</p>\n<p><b>JOB PURPOSE: </b> &nbsp;</p>\n<p>Operate heavy power construction equipment required to maintain, repair, excavate, or erect the University's grounds, buildings, and structures.</p>\n<p><b>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: &nbsp;</b></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Remove ice and snow from University parking lots, streets and sidewalks; operate a rotary blade snow removal truck; and load and transport snow from campus using front-end loaders and dump trucks.</li>\n <li>Level and contour dirt roads on campus and outlying farms using motor grader.</li>\n <li>Mix, load, transport and deposit topsoil for use in campus landscaping using a variety of heavy equipment including dozer, loaders, motor grader, or skid loaders.</li>\n <li>Load, transport, and deposit gravel or asphalt for street and road repairs.</li>\n <li>Operate backhoe and trenching machines to excavate ditches and trenches necessary to repair or install underground utilities.</li>\n <li>Operate street sweeping machine to maintain a clean campus environment.</li>\n <li>Operate mobile overhead cranes with the assistance of radio or hand signals for project work requiring crane operations such as roof work; work with contractors needing crane operation assistance.</li>\n <li>Prepare the crane rigging and determine if the crane operation work is safe; if work is determined by the Heavy Equipment Operator to not be safe (high winds, weight limitations, high electrical wires, too confined an area, unsafe to property or life, etc.), the Heavy Equipment Operator has the authority to call off the crane operation.</li>\n <li>Perform manual labor such as digging, shoveling concrete or asphalt, removal of concrete or asphalt, or other related duties as assigned.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><b>SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:&nbsp;&nbsp;</b></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Assist with garbage collection and campus cleanup crews as necessary.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><b>COMPETENCIES:&nbsp;&nbsp;</b></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Attention to Detail</li>\n <li>Safety Awareness</li>\n <li>Adaptability</li>\n <li>Motivational Fit</li>\n <li>Independence</li>\n <li>Work Tempo</li>\n</ul>\n<p><b>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: &nbsp;</b></p>\n<p><b>Education:&nbsp;</b> High School Diploma or GED, plus completion of related technical or vocational education/training</p>\n<p><b>Experience:&nbsp;</b> 2 years work-related experience</p>\n<p><b>Required licensure, certification, registration, or other requirements:</b></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Valid Class A commercial driver's license with airbrake designation (or the ability to obtain within six months of hire).</li>\n <li>Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the <a href=\"https://www.uwyo.edu/regs-policies/_files/docs/policies/uw-sap-7-9.10-vehicle-sap-driver-portion-approved4-27-22.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Driving for University Business SAP</a>.&nbsp;</li>\n</ul>\n<p><b>DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  &nbsp;</b></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Ability to lift 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation</li>\n <li>Mountain road maintenance knowledge</li>\n <li> Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade &nbsp;</li>\n <li>Knowledge of care and ability to safely and efficiently operate equipment/tools in area of operation</li>\n</ul>\n<p><b>This position has been deemed </b><i><b>essential </b></i><b>as addressed in the University of Wyoming’s </b><a href=\"http://www.uwyo.edu/hr/_files/docs/human-resources/Employee-Handbook.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><b><u>Employee Handbook</u></b></a><b><u>. </u>Employees in essential positions may be required to work during emergency closures and winter closures based on the nature of their job duties and the reasons for the closure.&nbsp;</b>&nbsp;</p>\n<p><b>REQUIRED APPLICATION MATERIALS: </b></p>\n<p>Complete the online application.&nbsp; The department additionally requests candidates upload the following document(s) for a complete application:&nbsp;</p>\n<ol>\n <li>Cover letter&nbsp;</li>\n <li>Resume or C.V.&nbsp;</li>\n <li>Contact information for four work-related references (references will only be contacted if you are selected as a finalist for the position).&nbsp;</li>\n</ol>\n<p><b>This position will remain open until filled.
