HBK Engineering, LLC is a fully licensed, professional engineering design firm headquartered in Chicago, IL with a staff approaching 700 individuals. HBK provides civil, environmental, structural, electrical, subsurface utility, construction support services and permitting facilitation. Since our founding in 1998, we have earned a reputation for delivering outstanding, accurate services in extremely time-sensitive, multilayered environments. That "industry-recognized" performance has propelled our expansion and the ability to provide engineering services in all 50 states. With 25 offices nationwide, including concentrations in the Midwest and on the Coasts, HBK brings together a dedicated team whose main focus is the design and protection of utilities and utility networks. We have successfully performed engineering work for a complete spectrum of utility infrastructure projects providing solutions and construction support from Coast to Coast in areas ranging from complex urban city centers, to rural greenfields, to limited access rights-of-way. In July 2020, HBK Engineering was acquired by Quanta Services. Quanta Services provides infrastructure services for electric power, pipeline, and communications industries and employees over 50,000 people. Quanta’s focus on the utility industry and HBK’s focus on constructability in our designs has made our integration into the Quanta family of companies seamless.
About this Role
HBK Engineering is seeking a Field Lead, who will lead a field surveying crew and is responsible for carrying out survey work as directed by a licensed surveyor. They operate survey instruments, oversee crew members, collect accurate field data, ensure safety compliance, and maintain daily field records. The Field Lead ensures work follows established procedures, plans, and specifications but typically works under close or general supervision. Work location Texas
What You'll Do
Linear field boundary
Electrical Transmission Staking
Pipeline surveying
Basic SUE field work including Pipe & Cable Locating & GPR collection.
Basic terrestrial scanning projects
Proficient with GPS RTK staking and data collection as well as static observations
Familiar with use of total stations and robotic total stations.
Capable to operate an optical and digital level.
UAS Base Level - Part 107 FAA drone pilot
General construction layout accuracy expected:
0.20 feet horizontal
0.10 feet vertical
What You'll Bring
Qualifications:
Three (3) years of OSP survey experience in with combination of aerial and underground OSP survey is required.
Ability to travel up to 90% of the time and work nights/weekends when required.
Working knowledge of NESC rules.
Datacenter construction experience.
High School Diploma or GED.
Attention to jobsite safety.
Working knowledge of OSP construction techniques and placement methods.
Valued but not required skills and experience:
PC knowledge and/or use and Microsoft Office Suite (Word / Excel) are preferred.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
Construction experience is a plus.
Bachelor’s degree is a plus.
I.T./S.I. T Certification is a plus.
Surveying experience is a plus.
Aerial and/or underground OSP construction experience.
Physical requirements:
Physically capable of moving about on construction sites, public streets and parkways
Capable of lifting up to 40lbs
Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
Ability to sit, kneel, and squat on a daily basis – minimal frequency of kneeling and squatting
Hand-eye coordination necessary to operate surveying equipment and measurements
Work environment:
Work safely outside in all weather conditions year-round.
Frequently work in excavations areas and roadways.
Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration.
The noise level in the work environment is occasionally moderate to loud.
May be required to work nights or weekends.
