Your Opportunity
We have an opportunity for a part-time/casual Construction Inspector within our Alberta Transportation group. In this role, you will be responsible for construction/site inspection efforts on complex transportation projects in order to ensure that operations comply with project plans, specifications, contract documents, and related items.
Your Key Responsibilities
Coordinates daily onsite construction activities liaising with contractors, design professionals, clients and relevant external parties.
Reports deviations from contract documents and codes. Follows through with responsible party until resolution.
Schedules and coordinates reviews and inspections.
Maintains records of activities including work completed and inspected.
Meets, reviews and reports to the project team on construction status, issues and concerns.
Monitors the progress of construction activities ensuring cost, schedule and quality standards are met.
Reviews plans, specifications, requests for information, submittals, construction schedules, shop drawings and pay applications (QA/QC).
Prepares documents and maintains file management of project-related information including, but not limited to, correspondence, reports, videos and pictures.
Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Ability to safely conduct construction/site inspections.
Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.
Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the team.
Effectively communicates project issues with contractor, project team and clients.
Comfortable working outside all day in a range of weather conditions, including hot and cold field temperatures and rain.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Required to supply your own safety footwear; however, safety vests and head protection will be supplied.
Education and Experience
Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and construction experience
A minimum of 14+ years of construction experience is required. Experience with Alberta Transportation or highway construction would be considered an asset.
Work will occur primarily on construction sites which may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Work will involve some nighttime and weekend activities through the course of construction.
